Two girls aged 14 sat half way up a massive tree out the front of one of their houses talking. One had brown eyes and brown hair that was bleach blonde on the top layer of hair, she wore a green singlet that laced up at the sides, very dark green shorts, high top boots that zipped up the inside and a black belt. The other girl had black hair and green eyes; she wore a stretchy long sleeved maroon top that had a band around the neck, a black waist cincher, long black pants and black knee high boots.

There were a few people stumbling down the road, probably drunk. They were too far away to see their faces but they didn’t seem very healthy.

A phone rang; it belonged to the girl in the green clothes.

“Hello,” she said, “Yes this is Tate, why what’s wrong?”

The other girl was sitting quietly listening to the paniced voice on the other end trying to figure out what they were saying.

“Calm down, what happed to them?”

The voice didn’t seem to calm down just babble nonsense then there was a yell of pain and the line went dead. Tate seemed in shock as she put the phone back in her pocket.

“My family is dead” she said so quietly the other girl almost missed it.

“What, how?”

“I don’t know how to explain it Riley,” Tate whispered, “My brother said it was some sort of cannibalism, like zombies.”

Riley was about to respond when the drunks that had been stumbling down the road starting smashing into the tree they were in. They looked down and gasped. The drunks were an ashy grey colour, they were a mess. All of them had blood on their clothes and face.

“What the hell” Riley yelled.

“It’s here too! The cannibal plague that killed my family!” Tate exclaimed.

 “Impossible, real zombies.”

“We can’t stay in this tree” Tate said suddenly alert.

“How are we gunna get out?” Riley asked.

As soon as Riley said that her step father came out of the house with the shot gun. He aimed it at the zombies yelling at them to get away from the tree. The undead creatures turned to face him and started running towards him.

He shot the closest one in the leg; it tumbled over before getting up and continuing forwards.

“What the Hell?!” he yelled shooting again.

The ghouls were fully focused on Riley’s step dad so they jumped down from the tree and ran around the back of her house. They charged through the back door and ran through the house to where Riley’s room was.

They didn’t bother checking if the others were in their rooms. Riley little sister and big sister were both at friends houses and her mum was at work.

When they got to her room they slammed the door closed. Riley grabbed her samurai sword, and throwing knives. They could hear her step dad screaming as he was over run.

“How much you wanna bet a shot to the head will kill these sons of bitches” Riley said sarcastically.

There was a thud on the door.

“Dunno but how are we gunna get out of here?” Tate replied.

They looked around the room trying to think of a way out that wouldn’t get them killed. A smile spread across Riley’s face as she turned back to Tate.

“The window” she said enthusiastically.

“Ok, let’s do this!” said Tate walking over to the window.

“I’ll pass you the sword and knives once you’re down so you can fight them off, then we’ll get out of here on the motor bike.”

“Ok” Tate agreed ducking out the window. She slid off the window sill and hit the ground hard.

“Fuck” Tate exclaimed.

“You ok?” Riley asked dropping the sword and knives out the window.

“I think I squished me mud crab bro” Tate said trying to imitate an aboriginal.

“I’ll take that as a yes” Riley said climbing out the window.

“You gumby, it was a no!” Tate laughed standing up.

“Oh ok” Riley said before jumping off the window sill and rolling as she hit the ground.

“Oh she’s a ninja!” Tate said sarcastically already walking to the motor bike leaning on the house further to their right.

Riley grabbed the throwing knives and followed her.

“You drive, I’ll hold the weapons” Riley said remembering the last time she rode into a fence on the motor bike.

“Got it” Tate said getting on the bike.

They rode around the side of the house and then down the drive way. They pulled out onto the road and as they zoomed past a couple of the living dead Riley got an idea. She stuck out the samurai sword and it sliced through the zombie’s neck. Her little stunt caused the bike to temporarily lose control and she nearly fell off. It could have been fatal at the speed they were going.

“What the hell did you do?!” Tate yelled.

“I stuck out the sword and killed a zombie” Riley replied over the roar of the bike.
