Prologue

I ran as fast as my little legs would allow, the sweat poured from my pale face as the still, darkness of the air encased me. If they caught me I would be one of them and I couldn't allow that to ever happen, the world depended on me and although I was only six years old, I understood the consequences of that happening, the importance I held to our world, I was rare. “We're gonna get you,” They sang, their voices terrifying as they pierced the thick air with their sharp taunts. I could hear the loud clunking of their footsteps behind me as they chased me deeper and deeper into their territory.

“Mommy!” I screamed as loud as I possibly could my voice cracking terribly, but no one could hear me, no one was listening. Tears brimmed from my eyes as the cold night air suffocated me.

“Your mommy can't help you now, dear Rarity,” one of them snarled and I could feel its warm, wretched breath on my ear. It was over, they had finally caught me and I could feel my small, tired legs buckle beneath me as my vision began to blur and everything inevitably went black.
