Scattered

Walking through a crowd,
Utterly alone.
You don't even hardly realize that your jaw and your fists are clenched.
The hollow ache in your chest spreads ands envelopes your whole body.
The dark, haunting wave ripples out to your fingertips, to your toes.
The voices dull and slowly die away.
Silence fills your mind.
No. Not silence
Wordless things that don't have definition.
They just are.
That familiar feeling begins to settle over your heart and sends your stomach in a nauseating plummet through the floor.
Your knees are weak, and your eyes wander.
Searching. Searching for that unnamable thing.
You feel fragile as if you could shatter at any moment.
In fact, you already have.
The pieces of you are torn and scattered.
Tossed about and swirling like torn papers in the wind.
You need someone to hold you together.
Someone to un-scatter you.
To wrap you up in their arms and keep everything from flying away for good.
Just until the wind dies down for a moment.
To let you know that they care.
No questions asked.
Simply be there.
