“Noooo” I slammed the door behind me and stormed out, leaving my  many siblings to shout and squabble in peace. Strands of red hair flew into my face, blocking or maybe shielding my aqua blue eyes from the confusing world. The booming steps from my pounding feet reverberated around the creepy, desolate street.  I headed towards school with angry thoughts storming through my head like a tornados ravaging streets of knowledge.

My thoughts ceased as the school gates loomed ominously into view. A mirror stood, tall and proud outside the concrete block of a school. Above the mirror read "look, look at yourself and carefully examine your sins before entering our peaceful sanctuary" in grand writing. As always I stopped and stared into the unintelligent, dull, aqua coloured eyes of the bulky ginger haired boy with the weird but unique name of Raze, who stared strangely back at me. (That was my view of myself then, it has changed significantly since then and of course it was altered slightly because of my mood). I grunted in disappointment and grudgingly stomped off...

Because of my grumpy disposition I did not see the lumpy, lime green bag left carelessly in the middle of the cobblestone path. And so I fell in a jumble of hands, legs and a little, lime, backpack. Suddenly the lush lime bag began to tremble, to shake, to full out shudder, then it froze, the zip slowly slid open...

I hadn’t the foggiest idea what was going to come out of the luxurious lime pack at my feet. But to my surprise instead of a vicious flesh devouring, seven armed, thirteen legged, nine eyed caecilian -  zorilla,  one, two, three, seven golden feathers sprouted from the bag, following them came the head and eventually the body of an unusually small 1.25m murky green snake. It’s miniscule scales glittered like exquisite emeralds and its aqua blue eyes shone like tropical waters, it’s twitchy tail slid out of the bag last flicking this way and that like a cat stalking goldfish. “W-what?” I stuttered questioningly. I guess the traumatic experience of having a feather crested serpent slither out of a shivering lime green bag at my feet was sorta getting to me... A little bit.

So I scrambled away, tripping and stumbling in a futile attempt to get away from the freak of nature. It blinked at me with curious, intelligent eyes. All of a sudden a slippery but on the other hand armoured consciousness touched mine, I recoiled in shock because for some “weird” reason I had never telepathically communicated with another being before. Cautiously I opened my enclosed mind to the alien intruder, It uttered or rather thought two words- Sky Serpent -supposedly it’s species.

Shortly after a brief exchange of intent stares I thought human. It inclined it’s head in a show of acknowledgement, I jerkingly nodded back. This was followed by a thoughtful conversation that went on to explain that I was Raze and that Serake as he called himself was a lost sky serpent that had misplace two feathers and so the so called propulsion-air-magic had been suspended, in other words he was unable to “drift”. He was the same age as me- 11 (his race lived as long as us) and came from a long line of gold-feather, green-body snakes. Finally he rounded up the- for want of a better word - talk by describing the struggle with him and a year seven in which he lost his feathers. The year seven guy was then, for irrational jumping around outside the school, he was sent to the anti deputy vice second in command school principal hence the sloppily ditched bag; meanwhile Serake was still deposited inside.

“RING! RING RING!! RING RING RING!!!” The shrill screech of the morning bells rang out through the school courtyard  like banshee’s screams through a graveyard. “No!” I looked at my watch “8:50? damn it” I shouted. I looked at the innocent snake no one can see me you know he thought out of the blue

What!? how come the year seven and I can see you?  The full-of-surprises-snake simply mentally shrugged. I shook off the tidal wave of questions collecting inside my head and then I just ran, I dashed, I sprinted, I bolted, with Serake slitheri- no slidi- no doing his thing beside me.
