The other Angels of Mistle
Alexa and Nick were sitting at a table where she was quietly telling him about the events of the past week in a detailed summary. He sipped his hot chocolate and listened, she stared out the picture window and sighed.
"I know it sounds crazy but here is the stone to prove it, and if you think I am off my rocker well I can't blame you," she sighed pulling the chain from inside her jacket and looking at him.
Nick placed his cup on the table and smiled at her as he reached for her hand and gave it an assured squeeze.
"I am not here to judge you, Lexie, I am here because I owe it to you as a friend and yes family. Friends stick together and I see you love this place as well as a certain gentleman."
Alexa stared at him and knew it was no use denying it. She loves Sheldon alright, she cannot tell when it happened but hearing it said only gave it more clarity.
"I love him and Mistle, the people and The Angel's Cafe. All this is what I want. It's where I belong if only I wasn't going to lose that chance I have been given," she sighed.
"Listen, Lexie,'' he said. "That angel chose you for a reason and life brought you here because this is where you ought to be. Christmas Eve ain't over yet so I suggest the way to continue into making that chance a reality is going to Sheldon and tell him the truth."
Alexa stared at him. "Have you listened to anything I've said?! He wants nothing to do with the Angel's Cafe."
"I don't think that's true. Maybe he just needs to have a purpose that will renew his love for it, and that person with the purpose is you," he told her matter of factly. "I believe you are the angel that Sheldon McIntosh needs and speak of the----"
Alexa's heart began to beat with that now-familiar sense of awareness that engulfed her whenever Sheldon was around. Her shoulders stiffen and she stares at Nicholas with wide eyes nervousness.
A million and one thought began to play in her long she willed herself to relax and put her best self forward. She had to look professional and confident. No way was she going to let Sheldon see just how nervous she was and how she was barely holding onto her composure.
She felt rather than saw when he came to stand by their table. She didn't need to see Nicholas' eyes or his words trailing off to know that he was standing there towering over them.
She swallowed visibly and fisted her singer's around Nicholas' to gather all the strength that she needed for what's to come.
She had left the cafe immediately after she had placed the call to her sister and headed home. She was running like a thief in the night hoping to disappear before he had made it to find her and put her promptly in her place.
She thought back to how she had waltzed in and took it upon herself to make it her sole duty to fight Sheldon on his choice to do with something that belonged to him. She had no right to treat the matter as if she had any say in the choices he made in regards to the Angel's Cafe.
One minute she was a raging protestor hell-bent on foisting any plans put in place for the cafe's sale, the next she was an unsure bunch of nerves fighting with all the insecurities that paved doubts in her mind.
She was so caught up in this battle now that she was not aware of the way the two men measured up each other. One with mild amusement, the other with barely suppressed male dominance.
It pleased Nicholas to see that Sheldon was just as in love with Alexa as she was with him. He stared openly at him standing there with an inquiringly raised brow that caused Sheldon to scowl more to his mischievous delight.
When Alexa finally found the courage to face him and made to speak the words died in her throat as just then a red-haired tempest and her determined mob barged into the cafe in full protest mode.
Alexa watched them a feeling of love and pride swelling in her chest. Her eyes traveled over every one of them as she thought just how blessed Mistle was. It had its fair share of angels; both celestial and earthly.
Elizabeth was and will always be the other angel and the spirit of Mistle burned bright in her as she stormed up to the table charged and ready to battle for her love, care, and need of the Angel's Cafe.
Stupid of her to think that she was ever alone, Alexa beamed with a wide pleased smile as she looked to Elizabeth and her crew. Her smile faltered a bit as she watched Elizabeth march up to Sheldon very much the avenging angel ready to unleash her wrath.
No this could not be good. Elizabeth might just set fuel to the fire and ensured that he used their interference to further propel him to get rid of the cafe. Her blue eyes darted from the short form with her fiery red hair to the tall robust man.
She blinked as she looked up at him. Where was the scowling figure that glared and boxed himself away from everyone? As sure as she was of herself that Sheldon was not the one standing here.
Had it happened, was this the beginning of a brand new start?
