This is it. The two boys are finally set off to go fight in the war against Marley. They worked day and night for this. And the day has finally come. Not that either of them were excited. No one was excited to jump into a war. They heard some of the best soldiers will be there. Reiner, Bertholdt, Marcel and more. Some of the strongest of the enemy. No one knew much about them other than their names and that they should be feared. Most people even forgot why the war started in the first place. For land? Yes. For land. For paradise to be free and have more land. A small bit of land wasn't enough for them. They needed more. And Marley seemed to be the best place to attack. Though this was years ago. Now at this point the war has turned into everyone fighting non stop to simply win. To destroy the enemy and all of their blood. To have no one from paradise left. The island was small. So it wouldn't be too hard for Marley with the strength they had. So they thought. But still to this day they go on non stop. And all the island can do is fight back.
The boys were young. Only just turning 18 not long ago. But with their parent's approval they joined the military early. You could join at 17 as long as your parents are okay with it. Jean's mom was worried for her boy but she knew he wanted to do the right thing. Even if Jean's real reason was just to be cool and know that he once fought in the war. He didn't expect the war to get so bad. So horribly. Fucking. Bad.
Marco on the other hand wanted to do what's right for the country and fight in the war. His parents believed in their young boy and let him enlist.
"Jinae was destroyed, no? Your hometown." Jean's question got Marco to tilt his head up from the gun he held in his hand. "Yeah. What about it?" Jean paused for a second. Marco looked back down to continue placing bullets in the empty weapon. "Well, do you think it'll be rebuilt or something?" Marco glanced back up as he closed up the rifle in his hand. He checked once more to see if the safety was on, which it was, before placing it onto the table. "Who knows. That is if the war ever ends. Maybe they'll clean up the place and just leave it a huge empty land." "They wouldn't. They'd wanna build something." Marco couldn't fight Jeans reply. He simply smiled his usual sweet one and gave him a nod. "Yeah. Probably."
They continued to load up every gun in that room as they waited. The ship they were on was headed to Marley. They were getting ready for an attack but for now it was nothing but a long ride. Luckily the boat was big enough for quite a bit of people and the two boys just did as the lieutenant ordered, filling each gun with a fresh set of bullets. Most others just prepared to be thrown into a field of bullets and bombs. Others got ready in other ways. Stuffing their face with what food they were given or crying out what they could now.
Jean leaned back on his chair almost tilting it back as he placed his legs up on the table in front of him. The smug look on his face didn't sit right with Marco. He shouldn't be grinning when they were about to give their lives for their country. His hands even rested behind his head in a relaxed manner.
The black haired boy gently pushed Jeans boots to the side so he could place the gun down. He let out a deep sigh and glanced up at Jean who finally spoke. "It won't be as bad as they say Marco. Calm down. We still have plenty of time before we get there too. Over a whole day!" None of Jean's words could calm Marco down. All he could do is be a fidgety and nervous mess, twiddling his thumbs like a child. "Jean, I don't think you understand how bad this war is."
They knew each other since kindergarten so it was no lie that Marco knew how lighty Jean treated important topics. A lot of stuff flew over his head. Which wasn't good any way you looked at it. At least in this scenario.
"It's fine Marco! Really. You're overreacting." "Tell that to the people puking out of pure fear." Jean physically cringed at the picture of someone puking before shaking his head and looking up at the wooden ceiling. Marco just sighed and looked back at his hands on the table as he watched his thumbs move. "There's no reason to be scared. Just stick in the back and let the rest do the work."
