*It's Friday night at Arlington High School. Long time boyfriends Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying have been having some issues lately, but they are also the staring love interests in the school musical. It's just as their next scene comes up and during their time off stage, they managed to get into another fight and try not to break character and stick to the script during their scene.*

Mitch: Tobius! My love! What's wrong?

He asks as he manages to stay to the script, yet concerned that Scott is obviously struggling to stay in character.

The music starts for the original song of musical, but Scott decides to change the lyrics.

Scott: Curtain's open up the scene, spotlight's shine on you and me...tonight..

He sings, leaving the audience to believe it's the real words.

Scott: Pretending for the crowd below, we put on a real good show, but it's a lie..

Mitch, being the amazing actor he is, knows what Scott's doing but stays in character as he gently grabs Scott's arm in concern.

Scott: We can't help but cause a fight..it's the same old drama every night..

He sang as he softly backed away from Mitch.

Scott: I'll walk off stage, cause this whole play, is more than I can take!

Mitch, now upset at what's going on, sings words he feels instead of the real song in response to Scott.

Mitch: Oh, woah...I don't want it to be over..

Scott cuts him off.

Scott: But we need a break before..you break my heart...

Mitch: Oh...

Scott: We can't live this scene forever, right now you and me are better...better off apart...

Mitch: But...

They continue to sing as they form years in their eyes, the audience still believing this is part of the musical.

Scott: I'll still love you when the lights come up...for our intermission...

He sings through the pain as Mitch wipes away a tear.

Scott: I was one foot out the door..I couldn't play that part no more..

Mitch: With you..

He sang, cutting him off.

Scott: The chemistry just wasn't there...I couldn't act like I didn't care...when I do.

Mitch: I do...

Scott: We can't help but cause a fight..it's the same old drama every night..I'll walk off stage..cause this whole play is more than I can take..

Mitch: Oh....woah...

They sing through the tears.

Mitch: I don't want it to be over!!!

Scott: But we need a break before...you break my heart...

Mitch: Oh..

He looks down.

Scott: We can't live this scene forever, right now you and me are better...

He sang as he gently lifted Mitch's head.

Mitch: Better..

Scott: Off apart...but I'll still love you when the lights come up...

Mitch: The lights come up..

Scott: We're like actors in a play...living out our love on stage..

Mitch: You're just saying the same old lines to me..

Scott: Yeah..

They sing emotionally.

Scott: So yeah we fell off track--

Mitch: But I know love will lead us back!

He sang loudly, cutting him off.

Scott: I don't want it to be over..but we need a break before..you break my heart...

Mitch: Oh...

He sings sadly..

Scott: We can't live this scene forever..

Mitch: Right now you and me are better...better off apart...

He sings to avoid hearing him say it again.

Scott nods.

Scott: But I'll still love you when the lights come up..

He sings as Mitch shakes his head in disbelief.

Scott: Yeah I'll still love you when the lights come up..

Mitch sings his oh's and woah's as his heart is breaking, while Scott, being the sweetheart he is, comforts him.

Scott: Baby, I'm gonna love you when the lights come up..

He sang full of heart as he held Mitch's hands.

Scott: I'm still gonna love you when the lights come up..

He sings as the song nears it's end.

Mitch holds Scott's hands but looks away with deep heartache.

Scott: Baby..

Mitch returns the gaze.

Scott: I'm gonna love you when the lights come up..

Both: For our intermission...

They both sing softly as the song ends.

As they hug tightly, the crowd whistles and cheers as they clap in a standing ovation, believing that whole time it was part of the musical.

After the show, Avi, the bass player of the pit, comes up to Mitch.

Avi: What was that?!

He asks confused.

Mitch looks over to his now ex Scott and sighs with a shrug.

Mitch: Our intermission...
