And so on April 24, 2007, Jesse and I officially become lovers. He called me at around 3:00 in the afternoon here (April 24) 12:00 midnight, California time. The conversation lasted for more than an hour. If overseas calls were not that expensive, I could’ve wished it would last a bit longer.
As days turned into weeks I was floating in the air, everything’s rosy as only felt by those maddeningly in love. Jesse was the one person I felt I could be myself with. At times I felt it so hard to believe, but I’m convinced he was the very reason why I'm always inspired to go on living each day.
On August 27, 2007, six months after knowing each other online, I went to Cebu City to meet my Jesse for the first time. Accompanied by my good friend Donna, I had the usual butterflies in my stomach but gradually felt at ease as we got nearer to the Mactan International Airport. We were an hour earlier and the waiting has got me wired, mind you.
When Jesse’s plane finally landed, my heart starts to palpitate and the butterflies in my stomach again went overdrive. As the passengers begin to disembark and went through the terminal gates, I began to frantically look out for him. Seeing no sign of him, I got worried that I might have missed him. Though there are only few people around me, it’s quite difficult to point out Jesse from a crowd since I’ve never seen him in person yet.
I've never been more nervous in my life.
After thirty minutes of waiting, the arriving passengers coming out through the terminal gates got fewer and fewer. Still seeing no trace of my Jesse, I started to get really nervous and at the same time, felt mushy. So I turned around and decided to sit at the lounge, worried and confused.
As I try to make sense as to what I’m going through, I noticed a tall guy, escorted by airport police, staring at me. It took only a few seconds for me to realize it was Jesse! With all my bottled-up excitement bursting out, I ran and hugged him, overjoyed to finally see my love for the very first time. Turns out he has to exchange a few dollars that’s why he went to the domestic gates instead, that’s why I missed him at the international gates. I felt relieved and excited to see how handsome Jesse looks in person (not that I expect him to be homely). But right there and then, I know I’ve already found what I’ve been missing the moment I saw him.
