As 16-year-old Ariel sits at her dinner table with her family, she looks down at her food, waiting for her mother's words. She knows what she is going to say, because she says the same thing every night at dinner.

"Ariel, why do you look like that? You have everything you need here." Her mother says, "You have me. You should smile more." So, Ariel, as any other day, looks up and smiles. Her mother is satisfied, and begins to eat. Ariel pushes her plate away, not being able to eat anything. She really hasn't eaten much ever since last year. All she ever does anymore is sit in her room and stare at her wall.

About a year ago she lost her dad from cancer. It was so sudden, she never got to say everything she wanted to say to him. Ever since then, this hated love has suffocated her family, what's left of it anyways.

Her mom changed from that, so much she doesn't even recognize her anymore. She tells Ariel she loves her, but when she does there's this flicker of hatred and sorrow in her eyes. Ariel hates love. She hates the pain it brings, the sorrow that drowns her because of it. She pushes away everyone she loves, knowing it was safer for her to do so.

Ariel sits down on her bed after she is excused from dinner, and once again stares at the words painted on her wall.

'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.' - John 14:27.

She frowns as tears fall down her face. Her and her dad had painted that verse on her wall when she was 12, and he always told her, if she truly believed those words, she would feel God's peace in her heart and soul. She sits there every day, looking at that verse, trying to understand it. He told her she would understand everything soon, and that she would see him again. Maybe one day, she'll finally find that peace her dad always talked about.

-This one is super short, so I apologize for that! I Hope y'all still enjoyed reading it! I may even do a part two of this one day ;)
