1) A Friends Betrayal, A Reapers Question

Misaki had thought the day would have been ok but it had went from bad to good to worse. First she had an informant killed right in front of her and then her father had practically ordered her to go to lunch with him. Of course she had chosen the only place that could remotely help her investigation but in the end she was pulled to a party by her old friend and forced to wear a terribly revealing dress. The party hadn't been bad and she actually had a good time. Then Alice had started spouting nonsense and shooting at her.

Misaki was bent over as she scrambled away fro Alice. She stumbled behind a small building in the greenhouse. She crouched so she would be less visible and froze when something brushed against her leg. She slowly turned and her eyes traveled up the black shoes and pants, at first she thought it was a waiter that had hid when they heard gun shots but as she continued up she realized her mistake. Near the pant leg was the tail of a black trench coat and on his face was the mask of BK-201. Misaki froze again wondering if he would kill her but he just looked at her through the mask for a moment and then slowly placed his finger on the mouth of the mask. Misaki nodded as he turned away but she kept him in her peripheral vision, she couldn't believe she was this close to the real BK-201.

They watched Alice walk around shouting about how she was sick and tired of something or other when The Black Reaper leaned closer. Misaki's eyes instantly zeroed in on him but he still seemed to be more focused on Alice. Suddenly he spoke, "seeing as how you two seem to at least know each other I want to know if you would rather her dead or not" he asked in a low voice. Misaki was shocked that he had asked, she realized she hadn't answered when he turned his head to her waiting for an answer. Misaki replied, "of course I don't want her dead but why would you care, she could get in the way again if she's alive right"? The Reaper looked at her for a moment, "contrary to popular belief I try not to kill if I don't have to, and why does it sound like your trying to make an excuse for her to die" he asked. Misaki realized that it had sounded like that, "it's not like that" she said defensively, "she's my friend no matter what she's saying now". Before BK-201 could reply Alice moved closer and shot the gun in a random direction. Misaki knew her pale skin and red dress would stand out but she couldn't think of anything. Suddenly BK-201 threw his trench coat over both of them hiding them from Alice.

Misaki was once again struck with fear as she realized she was mere inches away from a well known killer. When Alice passed The Reaper looked at Misaki and said dryly, "she doesn't exactly act all friendly does she"? Then he shot off running full speed at Alice and flipping over he when she pointed the gun at him. He placed his hands on her shoulders and sent a small shock through her body, he then placed her gently on the ground. Misaki ran out of hiding, "I thought you said you weren't going to kill her"! The Reaper stood up and started moving toward the glass patio, "I didn't" he threw over his shoulder. Misaki checked Alice's pulse and when she was satisfied that her friend was ok she grabbed her gun and headed toward the patio.

When she got there she immediately noticed that all the flowers were gone and BK-201 held some sort of crystal i his hand. She pointed the gun at him as he fixed his hidden eyes on her, "not that I don't appreciate the help but my job comes first" she said bluntly. To her surprise BK-201 chuckled slightly, "of course it does but you might want to check the magazine, I promise I won't move until your done" he said placing the crystal in his pocket and then standing still. Misaki kept the gun trained on him for a moment but the she released the magazine and checked, keeping The Reaper in her sights. Her eyes widened when she saw that the magazine was empty, of course now that I think about it I did hear five shots, she thought reprimanding herself. Now that she knew the gun was useless she tossed it aside and waited to see what BK-201 would do.

He seemed to study her reaction, then he started walking towards her. Misaki couldn't help feeling afraid as he got closer and closer, when he stepped up next to her she felt herself take an involuntary step back. He again chuckled, he raised his hand and placed it on her shoulder. Misaki was expecting a shock but instead he pulled her closer, there shoulders touched and he whispered in her ear, "you might want to leave soon she won't stay out long and I can't see her being in a pleasant mood when she wakes up". With that he let go and moved past her.
