Mikasa and I are making our way towards the cafe, where I'm supposed to meet the rest of her friends. I don't know whether there's a right word to express how I'm feeling about this; anxious? Maybe scared. Or maybe a bit of both.

Hanging outside the window is a neon blue light, so bright that it momentarily blinds me. The exterior of the building is dressed with baby-blue paint, contrasting with the common theme of grey and black around this town.

Mikasa holds the door open for me and steps back, allowing me to walk ahead of her. She closes the door after she enters and waves towards the group of loud people in the far corner and walks up to them.

She sits next to a dude with a buzzcut, and there's a blond guy in a multi-coloured button-up shirt across from them that I don't recognise.

Jean walks up to our booth and slaps the dude-with-a-buzzcut playfully across the back of the head. The blondie turns around, and as soon as he sees what's happening he tries to break their childish behaviour.

I glance around the cafe, staring at them with wide eyes; no one else is paying attention to them-it seems that this must be their usual conduct between each other.

Jean takes a count of my presence. He cuts his eyes to mine and smiles then glances at Mikasa. With a swift movement, he slides into the booth, and waves at me.

"I see you've finally found yourself a girl. Was she the only one that didn't reject you?" Baldie runs his hand down his head as if he's got hair to run his hand through.

I open my mouth about to object, but he flashes me a toothy grin.

"I'm kidding," he emphasises. "The day Jean gets a girl we'll all be doomed. I'm Connie, by the way." he slides in the seat next to me.

"You haven't even bothered getting a girl," Jean grumbles.

"I don't have time for girls. I'm too busy studying and breaking previous athletic records." Connie explains, flashing Jean a wink.

"Speak for yourself, I hope you enjoy the cats that will surround your rocking chair by the time your 50," Jean mutters.

"Change of subject please," Connie groans.

I grant him his request gladly. "How long have you known each other?"

"I've known him since I was nine or ten. Back then, he used to chew on his pens." Jean explains with a cold shoulder.

Connie mocks Jean's sour expression. "Wrong. We were both 12, and I only became your friend because you had the latest PlayStation." He corrects. "And I don't chew on my pens,"

"Not anymore-at least not in front of us." Jean says.

Connie nervously clears his throat, "Anyways, years and years later, here we are."

"Taking the piss out of each other's love lives and slapping each other?" I voice out, eyebrow raised.

"Well, when you put it like that it seems sad." Connie answers.
