Danni dropped Claudelle in front of the gate of the apartment. She waved goodbye and the car slowly moved away.
Claudelle was surprised that her mom has not arrived, usually she was already cooking something by the time she gets home. She was excited to tell her what happened today, she just checked her assignments instead.
The gate made a noise. Claudelle knew it was her mom. She's the only one early enough to arrive home in their compound. The other parents usually arrive about an hour later.
"I'm home." Dana said, coming into the living room. She kissed Claudelle.
Claudelle was busy finishing her assignment, she did not look back.
She smelled rotten meat, she knew that smell wherever she goes, and her eyes widened with fear
She jumped out of her chair,"Mom, where did you go?"
Dana shook her head,"What?"
Dana looked back to Claudelle. She was gripping the table, her eyes filled with fear, she was trying to look away from the door.
"Where have you been?"
"From work, where else would I go?"
"Where did you go, mom? You brought something home with you. Where did you go?"
Dana looked towards the door, to where Claudelle was trying 'not-to-look'. She doesn't see anything there.
"I'm sorry. I went to the one they called Mang Iro, he's a spiritual healer. One of the patients in the clinic told me that he can talk to spirits."
"Why would you go there?"
"To talk to your father." Dana said, feeling guilty
"Mom, I told you, he's gone! That spiritual healer you went to, doesn't know what he was doing. You cannot summon a soul and talk to it."
"I cannot accept what you said... that he doesn't love us anymore." Dana cried.
"When you die... everything goes with it, including feelings. That's why the dead become neutral. Do you know who gets to keep their feeling on the other side?..." Claudelle asked.
Dana did not ask, she looked back at her, waiting for the answer.
"Spirits! They want to get our bodies because they don't have one and so they are jealous and want to possess us all."
Dana held Claudelle's hands, worried,"What did I bring home?"
Claudelle took a quick glance towards the door which she immediately shifted away from it.
"You remember that I told you about smelling rotten meat? I smell it now. You just brought home a demon and invited it in to our house." Claudelle said.
A towering horned slender creature with blood red eyes already crouched to enter their house, it stared at her.
"No, I didn't! Why would I do that?" Dana was upset, her eyes widened in fear when she remembered saying that "you will always be with us" when she talked to the spirit that Mang Iro summoned. She covered her mouth, unable to believe the mistake that she did.
The creature came inside the house. Claudelle has seen this creature, and even without saying anything... its stare was enough for her to imagine its deep horrible grunt saying, I remember you... the girl from the convent!
