When The World Enters Code Red (P1)

Serveral countries have started receiving reports of violent protests against local gas stations and grocery stores.

These ridiculous protests seem to be about removing a particular soda from store shelves. The participants in these protests walk into stores like regular customers but in large groups. They then proceed to steal any and all Mtn Dew Code Red bottles, cans, and other Code Red products.

Employees inteviewed experiencing these events as bizarre and frightening as any acts to stop protestors result in violence towards said employees.

Law enforcers are treated the same.

Some protestors are unable to fight, such as children, they usually pass out on scene when stopped to question. We still don't know the reason behind this.

However, tests preformed on these individuals found the Code Red soda in their bloodstream.

More studies were conducted on dna samples, it started getting even more strange from there.

The molecular structure of the substance was complex and far beyond human understanding. We found that these molecules could communicate with one another. Not only that but they could make choices.

It was a comedic revelation amongst us scientists that was short lived when we realized the severity of our situation.

How was it possible that a man-made, chemical product meant to be consumed, was sentient?

So I sit here, typing on my personal laptop tethered to a VPN to keep the Code Red(CR) from finding me.

My involvement with the government makes me valuable to the CR especially since I am in a professional field of human development evolution. I study and find new and better ways for humans to progress in our world such as less energy consumption and less energy restoration or sleep cycles and eating habits.

I can't have that information in the hands of something that is trying to destroy humanity rather than help.

Yes, that's right. A carbonated beverage has taken over society, sad isn't it? We must really be a weak race, but we don't deserve to be wiped out by some emotionless higher species, even if we created them.

Thats the thing, we don't know if we actually created them or not. We did create their original compound and vessel but they seemed to have evolved very quickly.

I freeze upon hearing a thump not too far from where I hide underneath my office desk.

It sounded close, maybe a few rooms down.

I already knew I wasn't alone in here. Several other workers had stayed as to not be caught by CR when they traversed outside.

We were trapped, if we went out, they would take us down using other humans that were being controlled by them. If we stayed inside....they would eventually come and find us.

I was afraid of that, we all were. Awaiting our own demise as the seconds ticked by.

The thump had echoed down the corridor, hushing the slight sounds of tapping on keyboards.

Then the peircing screech that followed. The yell of a man I think,

"NO, NO PLEASE, I DON'T WANT TO DIE." Then a sickening crack and another thump.

I was shaking from where I hid. One hand covering my mouth from letting out any noise, only letting out a quiet, muffled cry that was quickly covered by the scream that came from a woman in the same room as me.

I knew her, Beatrice from the development apartment. She was usually kind and helpful. We went out for dinner together once to celebrate the new tech advancement project.

But now I hear her being dragged away. Outside, into the hallway, despite her frantic movements and hysteric crying.

Then another thump, this time against the wall, followed by a harsh crack. Everything is quiet once again.

The thing-I don't what it was, it couldn't possibly be human. I couldn't even hear it come down the corridor. How is that possible?

I don't want to look at it. I can't look at it, but I have to see what I'm dealing with, for vulnerabilities.

With just the slightest movement I can muster, I shuffle slightly forward and peer around the side of my desk.

I don't even know what I'm looking at.

It was a giant Code Red bottle.
