Eric POV "factions are important because they keep peace and pro..." my teacher trails off as someone from the office comes in

"Coulter, someone is here to see you. You won't be coming back to this class, probably not back all day. Thank you, Sir."

Shit. What did I do now?

Fuck, they found out that I cheated on last week's Chemistry. But how on this stupid earth am I supposed to pass that fucking subject.

They don't take me to the office. They take me to the hallway that we are not supposed to go in. The ones we do are aptitude tests. What? I won't bother asking, I can already tell they won't tell me where are they taking me. Shit. Are they going to kill me?

"Hello Eric," says a voice behind me

The voice makes me jump.

"Don't be scared, is just me, Jeanine. I would just like to do a small test, if you pass I would like to offer you something, if not you will go back to class and never speak of this again."

Okay... why the fuck is Jeanine Mathew's talking to me and how on this fucking earth am I going to pass this test. I already know I won't stay in Erudite, any idiot would realize that. in a matter of seconds, I have already thought up millions of scenarios mostly involving me becoming factionless - a fate worse than death -, living on the streets with barely enough food to survive and becoming even more of a family disappointment than I already am.

"You are not going to get in trouble if that's what you are worrying about, "she clarifies in a sophisticated manner.

Oh great. Fucking Jeanine Mathews can probably read my thoughts. Just what I needed on an already amazing day.

"Don't worry, I'm not a psychic I am just very good at psychology "she states proudly "for example, can easily tell by your horrible posture that you are feeling extremely anxious about what's going to happen to you".

I don't know if she expects me to respond so I stare down at my shoes and say nothing. The last thing I need right now is someone as important as Jeanine Mathews thinking I'm a loudmouth candor.

"I just need you to do something for me first" Jeanine smirks knowingly. I begin to worry even more but try not to show it. I've spent more than enough time in Erudite to know that nothing comes for free, especially a favor as big as that.
