My third week in Overwatch. Things seem to be going fairly well. Everyone here seems to find my abilities very useful. So that at least is relieving to me. I had worried about my competence prior to joining overwatch because while I do have amazing powers, I know nothing about combat. I've learned a little bit since I got here, but for the most part on our missions I try to keep distance between me and the enemy so that I can just easily strike them down without having to worry about how to really fight them. It's not like fighting is my main responsibility anyways; I'm really here to heal people mostly.
I've always been a pretty quiet person and not overly noticeable to people, and that pattern continues here. I'm mostly invisible to people, but there's a couple of people that have approached me and talked with me briefly. There's also several people who I've noticed watching me. I could imagine why I've caught their attention being one of the youngest members of overwatch and having such unique powers. But their attention makes me nervous nonetheless.
Right now, I'm sitting at a table by myself in the cafeteria of Overwatch base eating dinner, but I can feel several people's gazes lingering upon me.
"May I sit with you?" I hear doctor Ziegler (Mercy) ask politely.
I awkwardly smile and nod. "Sure thing."
"Thank you. How are you today?"
I sigh. "I'm alright. How about you?"
She nods. "A little tired but other than that I'm decent."
I nod. We spend a bit of time eating in awkward silence before she sparks up more conversation.
"So what brings you to Overwatch at such a young age?"
"Oh. Well, I discovered the abilities I have and I sought to find a worthy purpose to invest them into. I had many offers from different organizations. I even was sought after by Talon before that organization fell. But Overwatch stood out to me because of its focus towards helping people. Rescuing people who can't rescue themselves. I know what it feels like to be helpless. The less people feel like that, the better."
She has an understanding and pleased look on her face. "You seem to have been through a lot. I hope you know that you are very welcome here and don't be shy to ask for help or anything okay?"
I nod, smiling. "Thankyou, Mercy. You're very kind."
She smiles. "Call me Angie."
"Y/N." I smile, holding out my hand as she eagerly shakes it.
"Well, it is a pleasure to meet you, Y/N. I must be going now since I have lots of paperwork to complete, but if you need anything my office is third door on the left of the main hallway."
"Okay, thank you, Angie. I'll see you around."
With this being said, she walks briskly out of the cafeteria.
I've met Angie once before on my first day here actually. She was the doctor that checked me in and gave me the rundown on medical procedures here. She seems very nice and she's a world renowned doctor with very advanced technology. She strikes me as a very warm, empathetic, motherly person. I'm glad she officially introduced herself to me outside of our career circumstances.
Besides her, I've really only had much interaction with Tracer and Reaper.
Sure, I've been very formally introduced to all the overwatch members, but there was no interaction there.
Tracer was really friendly and welcomed me on my first day. She was the one that gave me a tour of Overwatch headquarters and helped me out my first week here. I have to say, her movement is impossible to track even when she's just bustling around headquarters, she gives me whiplash sometimes!
As for Reaper, that shadow of a being snarled at me when we collided at a corner of some hallway on my third day here.
"Watch where you're going little girl."
I had just rolled my eyes and kept walking. He seems like a bit of an asshole. Definitely not the kind of person I want to have to be around any longer than needed. I hope I don't get assigned missions with him often.
And besides Reaper, Moira is the creepiest Overwatch hero. Soldier seems impatient, very strict, and grumpy. But maybe he cares more about the agents under the surface even if he doesn't show it well. Lucio and D.Va seem nice but too cool for me honestly. I don't keep up with pop culture enough to really resonate with them.
Ashe and McCree both seem like cowboy gunslingers that follow lots of typical western culture. McCree seems kind of drunk and more laidback in some ways, but they both seem very intimidating.
Especially Ashe. She seems very menacing and like she is always in control of everything. Definitely rebellious and not someone to mess with. Not someone too upset. She seems to have a thing against McCree. Judging by that and also their similar style I'm pretty sure they have some kind of history. But I don't have anyone I know well enough yet to ask and get the inside scoop.
Ashe doesn't take orders from anyone, not even Soldier 76 himself. Ashe always finds ways to show her dominance and ends up basically leading missions even if someone else was originally put in charge. Whenever someone taunts her or pokes fun at her, she either nails them with a brutal sarcastic comment or makes it clear that if they say something like that again, she'll send them to an early grave. She's such an intense person. And her intensity is expressed equally not just through her personality but her psychical appearance as well with her daunting bloody red eyes. Beautiful, but again, quite menacing. I'd never want to be on the receiving end of one of her glares. As a naturally submissive person, I can almost never meet her eyes.
And yet so far, she's one of the people that seemed to have taken notice of me and it worries me. It'd be just my luck if I already managed to get on her bad side. So far, she hasn't approached me, but I could feel her gaze on me several times.
McCree have also spared me several shameless glances. Mostly he'll wink or throw a flirty smirk my way, but I'm pretty sure he does that to every living, breathing thing.
And Moria has also taken an interest in me. But that's just because she wants me to allow her to scientifically experiment with my powers. Engh. She always gives me the chills. Big nope...
But I can't find a reason for Ashe to take notice in me. Hopefully I haven't done anything to piss her off. I could take a lot of people in a fight. But Ashe? Not so sure. But hopefully I'm overthinking, and she doesn't actually want to fight me anyway. Hopefully she is just observing me just because I am new here.
