Being lost in the woods wouldn't have been so bad if Fumikage hadn't started acting strange. But, as it got darker, he began saying things like, "Darkness eclipses the light," and "Lost in the Dark," and Dark Shadow, who was following them on two feet like a chicken, kept getting bigger.
Tsuyu asked why he didn't just get on the roc, fly over the trees, and help them get un-lost.
"Two reasons," Fumikage said, "Firstly, even if I did that, I couldn't lead you all out of the woods, because you couldn't see me, and if I flew back down, we could just get lost again. Secondly, we are searching for someone in the woods, and that won't help us find them."
"Well, can you stop saying things about Darkness?" Tsuyu changed the subject. "It's kind of making it worse."
"I can't help it," Fumikage said.
"so,... Deku," Ochaco spoke, "Do you think there's a plan we could enact here to find the Hermit before nightfall?"
"How long have we been lost?" Deku asked.
"Approximately 6 hours," Tsuyu said, "Counting when I first noticed it, and that 2 of those hours were spent arguing about which way we came from on multiple occasions. The light has changed a lot in that time. Also, the roc is getting bigger the longer we stay in here, and that's kind of concerning."
"His power grows in darkness," Fumikage said somberly, "It becomes harder to control him."
"I have a match," Tsuyu said.
"Why do you have a match?" Ochaco asked.
"I was considering cooking some of the mushrooms for lunch," Tsuyu replied, "They taste good over an open fire."
"I don't think a match will be enough." Fumikage didn't seem to know quite how to look while he said that.
"We could make a fire," Tsuyu suggested.
"But the Hermit?" Deku said.
"Honestly, Deku of Green Village," Tsuyu said, "You seem to spend a lot of time looking for older gentlemen in the country. One'd think you'd have more of a strategy."
Deku whimpered real heroically.
"Well, it's not like it's so easy to find him. We don't have a magic map this time," Ochaco said, "How did he find you before, Deku?"
"Uh... he just laid in the street pretending to be hurt," Deku said.
They all started at him.
"What?" Tsuyu said finally.
"He was lying down, and he said to help him, and he couldn't get up... but then he could," Deku said, "And I dropped my water buckets because I was concerned, and then he got mad at me, and then we went inside and ate my mom's pie before I could stop him, and then he told me that the 8th sent him to help me."
"How did the 8th do that from across the country?" Ochaco asked.
"I don't know," Deku said oddly.
"This whole thing sounds like magic," Tsuyu said.
"Indubitably," Fumikage agreed.
"If it's magic, then you probably can only find him by magic too," Tsuyu reasoned.
"What magic?" Deku said, "I don't have any magic."
"You have the SOL. That's magic," Tsuyu said.
"But he can't use it," Ochaco said.
Tsuyu looked a little peeved. "Maybe if you just tried thinking about it."
"But I did try that before," Deku said, "I tried to use it when Ochaco and I were training. Nothing happened."
