Small Talk

Third POV

It was around 1 PM.

Nico had just needed to drop of a package, and suggested while he was going out anyway, Thomas should come along for a small road trip.

By sheer curiosity and a small feeling for nostalgia, They decided to stop by the mall. It was the closest thing to their stop so why not go in and check it out.

As they went in, Nico was immediately dragged off by Thomas, as his sides had seen places that peeked their interest.

After a while, they decided it was time for a snack or two.
So there was only one logical place to go.

Surprisingly, as they entered the food court, not a lot of people were there. Just small groups.

The two were looking at the places, and remembered Karrot Kings.

Nico had made a teasing remark about the area, only to find out it wasn't there anymore.

Perhaps it had gotten shut down, and they weren't all that sad to see it go.
They did make some questionable products..

With a calming environment, they sat down at a table with their food and started striking up some small talk. They began to really settle down from the excitement of running around the building.
As they spoke, to them, it felt like they weren't even in public anymore.
They were in they're own little bubble. Just the two of them.
It felt refreshing.

"Hey.. I got a question."
"Go for it."
"..When did they show up? The others I mean."
"..Uh.. Elaborate?"

Nico set down his drink, deep in his questions.

"Well.. you talk like you've had Logan, Roman, Patton, and Virgil since forever.. And only recently you've found out about Janus and Remus.
I'm curious.. Why is that?"

Nico's question made Thomas stop and think for a while.
The others in his head had stopped too. All for different reasons.

"Well.." Thomas began. "I think I've always known they were there..

As a kid, I've always known I wasn't alone and stuff.. but up until a few years ago I didn't see them the way they are now. In fact.. I couldn't see them at all. It was always just... A feeling."

"Huh... Interesting.." Nico, without even realizing it, had taken out his notepad and started taking notes.

"Yep! I'll be honest.. The first time I saw them in my room.. I.. freaked out a bit.."

"He threw a lamp at me!" Roman, whom had given himself a seat at the table. Seems like he had rised up just to make that remark.

Virgil had also appeared out of nowhere, with the same dramatic tone, and took the seat right beside Roman. "..First time I popped up he grabbed the nearest spray bottle."

A sly grin appeared on Nico's face and Thomas shooed the two away.

"Alright then... So we know the origin.. then.. what about Janus and Remus?Did you know they were there in the same way you knew about the other 4?"

"Honestly... No! I had no idea they were there.. It spooked me."

"Wow.. That's so bizarre.."

"Yeah! Makes me wonder if there are more things I don't know about myself."

With those words I thought of my other question.

"Then.. Why do you think they're even there in the first place?"

After a bit of thought, Thomas responded.

"Well.. I don't know.."

"..You.. don't know?"

"Well.. yeah! I've always known they were there.. and why they started talking to me in their human forms.. I'm not sure."

"Huh... Weird.. I thought it might be because of some childhood need for friends." Nico replied in a pretty joking tone.

"Har har. Very funny~"

After that, they ate. But it wasn't until a little later that Nico's mind began racing again.

"Well.. if it IS something that you needed... then why am I able to see them..?"

Then it went quiet.
For a pretty long time, it was just silence.

Until Thomas spoke up again.

"I don't know that one either... Jeez.. these questions are really out there huh?"

Nico laughed a bit. "Well you can't really blame me. I think I wrote down a bunch of questions about the others."

"Hope I can actually answer those." Thomas grinned back.

And with that, the talk turned into different topics.

And soon after, they pushed back the conversation into the back of their heads.

Perhaps they'll talk about it again someday.
