The pleasing autumn breeze hit my back as I waited for Rachel and Evelyn to come to school. I sat on the courtyard bench with my legs crossed, reading Twilight. Twilight has been my favorite book ever since I was twelve years old. In fact, Twilight is the reason why my standards for guys are so high. To be honest, I was surprised that Alex could fit most of them. I smiled sheepishly when Edward told Bella that she's beautiful. Aww, I want someone to tell me I'm beautiful, I thought, still grinning. Oh. Wait. I already do. But for some reason, this piece of information didn't bring me as much joy as I thought it would.
I jumped in fright when I felt a tap on my shoulder. The lightness of the tap told me exactly who did the action. I closed the book reluctantly and looked up. Standing over me was Rachel Moore, my best friend. Her light brown curly hair dangled over my face. Rachel's brown eyes glinted with happiness when I smirked my infamous smirk. Rachel and I have been the best of friends since we were nine years old. We did everything together. We knew everything about each other. So I knew why she was in a fit and why her brows were squished together like they were.
"What's up, stranger?" I asked, grinning. "Anything important you need to tell me?" Rachel rolled her eyes and sat down next to me. "Aw, do tell me why you're angry," I pried, knowing full well why. Two weeks ago, Rachel's childhood best friend and crush finally told her his feelings for her. And it's been giving her so much stress.
"Don't play dumb, Leigh," Rachel sighed. She placed her backpack on the damp grass, not knowing that it was. "Luka is being pushier," she growled. "I mean, he wanted to do with a movie night with me but I insisted you come. Long story short, he's trying to kick you out so he can go on a date with me," she shook her head. I tried to hide my millions of questions. "I mean, I already told you how I feel about high school romances."
"Oh, I know," I groaned. "You think they are pointless because they only lead you to heartbreak. You especially emphasized this when I told you that Alex and I were dating. 'What's the purpose?'" I mocked.
"Exactly! So, I keep asking myself the same questions! Like, what is the purpose? Would I want to marry him? And if I do, then would he want to marry me?" fussed Rachel. Oh crap, she's getting into stress mode, I thought. "I don't know, maybe I should just move!" she yelled.
"No! Anything but that!" I cried.
"Anything but what?" A familiar husky voice wondered. I whipped my head in the direction of the voice and smiled. Alex's handsome brown eyes stared at me and his perfect quirky smile was spread wide across his face. A smile also appeared on my face without me telling it. Alex walked up to us and wrapped his strong sturdy arms around my waist. "Rachel, here, wants to move away!" I pouted. Alex gasped and shook his head. "Exactly."
"Ah, it's just the stress talking," sighed Rachel.
"All you need to do is trust in God," I reassured. "And he'll do it all."
"I know, I know," Rachel admitted. "It's just hard considering that I can't know the future and how things are going to turn out..."
"Hey, guys," another familiar voice called. We turned around and saw Evelyn walking toward us. Evelyn was another one of my best friends, she was the one person I could count on to always be there. No matter how tired or how annoyed she was, she would always be there for me. Evelyn had her dark blonde hair in a ponytail and she wore her iconic grey sweater. When Evelyn walked over to us and sat down.
"Good Morning, Eve," I greeted, leaning into Alex's warm body.
"Morning," she replied. "Whatchya talking about?" wondered Evelyn.
"Nothing much, just how Rachel was going to leave Brookside," I said, filling her in.
"Oh! Leigh," exclaimed Alex.
"Yeah?"
"Remember that we have plans on Friday," he reminded.
"Oh, right," I muttered.
"Aw," Evelyn squealed. "You guys are so so cute together!"
"Thank you," I beamed. "We try to be," I joked.
"Yeah, right," Alex scoffed, rolling his eyes. Almost like no time had passed, the school bell rang, telling us to leave the courtyard. We all stood up and got ready to go. "Okay, so for lunch, James asked me if I could sit next to him...is that okay?" wondered Alex, his eyes looking down at me. I looked at him, especially his eyes. They were so soft. So innocent. It was clear that he wanted to be a great boyfriend. It was too bad that I wasn't really happy with him...
"Of course," I smiled.
"Thank you, I'll make it up to you," Alex beamed. I started to put things back into my backpack when I heard someone clear their throat. I turned around first and immediately regretted it. The person in front of me...was...I don't even know how to explain it! I just felt like he was the one person for me. He had mesmerizing blue eyes that I could get lost in and curly blonde hair. He had strong muscular arms and beautiful lips.
Our eyes locked, and I fell in love immediately. I could tell he felt the same. The way his eyes never left my gaze told me enough. This was my second mistake. Meeting him. "Um, hi," he greeted. Oh Lord, even his voice sounds amazing. Country like. Dear Jesus, why did you bring him here? You know how I fall for country guys! I have a boyfriend! Help me through this temptation! But for some reason, I felt like God was laughing at my reaction towards the boy. Yeah...there is something up with this boy.
I didn't realize everyone else had already turned around until Alex said hello. But my eyes never wandered anywhere else. Neither did his. The only time he did look away was when he said hi to everyone else. For that, I was grateful. "Um, I need to go to Biology and I was wondering if one of you could help me," he said, looking at me again. I shook in the pleasure of his gaze. I shouldn't e feeling this! I have a boyfriend for crying out loud! Oh speaking of boyfriend, I should probably see why he's tightening his grip on my waist.
It was so hard that I had a feeling there were going to be bruises. I looked up and saw Alex staring the guy down. Oh boy. I guess he saw what I saw. "Sure," I started. "I have biology today anyway."
The boy smiled and his eyes lit up with excitement. Darn it, guy! Can't you see my boyfriend wants to snap you in half? "Noah."
"What?"
"My name is Noah," he introduced.
"Alex," my protective BOYFRIEND growled. I winced at the bitterness in his voice. Yup. There was no way that he'll let be alone with Noah after today. Not that I wanted to be.
"Let's go before we're late," Rachel told Alex. She must have caught on to what was happening. He just stared at Noah one more time then kissed my cheek. However, there were no tingles, like usual.
"See ya, babe," whispered Alex. He looked at Noah again then walked away. Before they left, I gave Rachel a grateful glance. She nodded her head then walked away.
"Bye, Eve," I said. Evelyn nodded then walked away. We were alone now. Lord, help me! "So, biology is this way..."
