All I remember is staring into a vat of vile acid and falling. Oh Lord the falling. It just wouldn't stop. The falling was like dreading ur name to be called to stand in front of the class. Forever. Infinite. Then instantaneously I was abruptly pulled up and up. The light. I felt, at first, I had something to finish in my life, but I was a nobody. What could I have done? Suddenly a long, thin string grabbed me and pulled me into the black void below me. As I stare into utter darkness a white shape appears.
I screamed. Well tried to at least. I, still attempting to scream, realized something as I stared at the white shape. It was me. It was my lifeless body staring blankly back at me. As I stared at my glazed over, bright blue eyes I saw a memory. However it wasn't mine. It was that of my killers.
"Watcha doin'?" a curious girls voice asked.
"About to get some grub. Wanna come?" a man's masculine voice inquired.
"I gotta study, but could u bring some home?"
"Su..."
The memory stopped abruptly. I was aghast at what I'd seen before it stopped. A bullet racing toward the young girls forehead. Suddenly the memory resumed and the bullet along with it, but stopped short.
There was a shiny bubble-like substance around the girl. The child blacked out. As she did so the bullet, the substance, and herself dropped to the ground.
"Sera! Sera!" the man screamed. "Are you okay!?"
"Wa... What happened?" asked the delirious Seraphina.
"Sweetheart, you had a bad dream. You were screaming and kicking," lied the man with a an upset look on his face.
The memory fizzled away. As it faded, I was yanked away to my thoughts. I thought for an instant that I was the girl. She looked like my lifeless body, but I don't know what to think now.
Why had the man lied to Seraphina? Why'd she listen? What was so important to keep a secret? Is he a Mortar*?
