As I approached the factory, a stirring thought crossed my ever growing mind. Why here? Why now?
It was 2: a.m. on a Thursday. I was told to meet here on "business." My associate should be here right about now. I pulled out my Samsung and started to dial.
112-358-1321.
The phone rang three times and a tired woman answered the phone.
"What's this about ma'am?" my associate complained.
"What do you mean what is this about? You were supposed to be here twenty minutes ago!" I explained angrily.
"But..." she stuttered.
Suddenly a strange man appeared with a long dark cloak donned on.
Ugh what now. I thought quickly.
"Gotta go Celia. See you bright and early Monday morning for a special job."
I hung up the phone and saw the man got closer. It was freaking me out. It was like he was floating.
Hello.
This guy was in my head!
Uh... Hi?
You should be nicer to your employees.
Ugh now he's criticizing my work life.
Watcha want pal?
Oh just your soul is all.
Woah hold on there a minute Mat. Can I call you Mat? What are you?
I am a mortar. I can exchange souls for my food source which I am in desperate need for. My food source is incredibly rare and must be bought with a large quantity of Link, the money of my people.
Who do you.. Okay. So what I'm hearing is... What food source. I'm genuinely confused. Elaborate please.
Don't worry. Nobody gets it the first time. My food source is a substance known to the humane as starlight, but to us it is known as effiniah. The way we consume this is we basically absorb it through our bodies since we have no moving apparatus as part of our facial features. This is why I am speaking to you telepathically. Now all I need is your soul and I'll be on my way. Thank you very much.
