.........................................................................................................................................
I like to think to think that everyone is kind in their own way. I like to think that I myself is a kind person-well I know I'm a kind person but, there's always someone who will manage to make themselves an exception to this unspoken rule of thumb and that person is
Eren Yeager.
Man do I hate that kid. He's always trying to find a way to pluck my nerves (he never fails to) and because apparently the world hates my very existence, my parents have decided to invite him and his family over to my house for dinner tonight. Something about how my dad and his dad were planning on hanging with eachother- I still don't get what their business has to do with both of our families but according to my family it does.
As I sat at my desk reading and trying to think of excuses to not come downstairs to dinner so I wouldn't have to be seen in this absolutely ugly dress, I thought of reasons why I despise the boy. Of course my list would be all too long but I'm following some advice my mom gave me, "Always think your decisions through." so with that said here's my list of reasons for despising him.
1. When I first met him he insulted my charm bracelet which I spent hours making
2. His hair looks weird
3. Anytime I see him gives me a weird look
4. He dresses as if his parents aren't incredibly wealthy
5. He's just him
I think that's a good enough list.
With a sigh I shut my book and frowned, dinner starts soon. I can already hear mom shuffling around the kitchen. Anytime now the Yeager's would be pulling into the driveway with my worst enemy. Darn it all.
Deciding that sitting in my desk drowning in self-pity wasn't going to fix anything I accepted my fate and walked downstairs to the kitchen with a pout.
As I expected mom was downstairs setting the table and washing dishes, hey at least I get to eat my mom's cooking. "Oh Y/N! What's up?" She asked with her usual bright smile. She's making it hard to be angry. "Not much mom just thinking of ways to turn into a bird and fly away." I replied, climbing onto he kitchen island stool. I wasn't lying completely but I did leave out the part about wanting to be a bird so I could poop on Eren's head.
Mom giggled softly as she turned back to the dishes, "Is it because of that Eren kid? Just a wild guess." She asked. Darnit mom you're not supposed to know that.
"Yes, he's soooooo annoying! He's always trying to get under my skin." I groaned, putting my head on the table. Mom dropped the dish back in the sink and walked to the island, rolling her sleeves up and leaning on the edge. "Hm well it seems like he's doing a good job at the last part, you know men are just annoying anyway." she said with a shrug. "I'd hardly call that eight year old disgrace a man. Whyyy does he of all people have to be our neighbor?!" I whined.
Mom laughed softly again, What is so funny? Does she enjoy my pain and heartache?! What is wrong with this family??
"Well sweetie there are somethings in life we can't control and just have to deal with, how about instead of looking on the bad side of this you look on the good side." She spoke while holding my hand. "What could possibly be good about having so to spend more than an hour in the same room as that thing?" I asked scrunching my face up at just talking about it. "You guys could be friends! Ms. Carla has told me that he enjoys learning about nature, maybe you could show him some of your books and your fish tank. I'm sure you guy's will have a lot in common if you actually sit down and talk to him rather than arguing with him and insulting his existence." her voice was genuine meaning she really meant what she said. Great mom you have yet again won me over to your opinion.
"Fine, but if he gets out of line don't be surprised when I hurt him!" I huffed. She laughed once again and kissed my hand.
"Maria, Y/N! They're here!" Just on time dad, just on time.
Mom nodded for me to follow her out to the front porch which I did because there was no escaping at this point.
Once I stepped outside I was greeted by the warm afternoon breeze and the bright faces of Carla and Grisha Yeager. Carla was smiling happily as she made her way to my mom and they proceeded to do their own things in the kitchen which consisted of talking about boring talk show stuff. Grisha walked to my dad and they did their own thing around the back of the house probably talking about hunting and well.....dad stuff I suppose. Which left me standing on the front porch in front of Eren. He looked at me with a straight face before finally speaking up, "Hi..?" he said, well more so questioned. I had already had enough at this point. I was about to walk away but I remembered what mom had told me and walked towards him with squinted eyes. "Hi, hey look do you see that big puffy cloud right there?" I asked pointing upwards at the sky.
He looked at me weird but nonetheless stood beside me and followed my gaze. Perfect. "Yeah what about it...?" He asked, confused. "Well do you know what it's called?" I asked with a cocky smirk. He furrowed his eyebrows and stared at it again, "What do you mean? Did you name the cloud or something because if you did that makes even more of a weirdo you know!"
He thinks he's smarter than me?! HAH! This is gonna be more interesting than I thought.
"No you knuckle head, it's called a cumulus cloud! I can't believe the 'great and all-mighty Eren' doesn't know simple second grade science!" I laughed. "Hey that's no fair! I didn't know we were talking about science!" He said trying to defend himself. I only laughed harder. "HAH! Whatever you say Eren." I said getting the last of my laughs out.
I sat down on the front porch step and looked back up at the sky. Soon after I could hear Eren doing the same. We sat there in silence for a moment before he once again spoke up, "Hey Y/N," he started. I turned to meet his green eyes, "What, Yeager?" I asked. "Could you tell me more about the clouds?"
Taken aback I gaped at him. There was no mockery in his voice, he was being serious. I wanted to try and find some ulterior motive in his gaze but there was nothing genuine curiosity and wonder in his eyes. "Of course....yeah of course."
