KennedyThe second she walks into the coffee shop I can tell she's going to be annoying. One of those girls. The ones that like no fat, no sugar, no calories, all that good stuff. I have half the mind to tell them that they should just get some water; it would be better for them and fits all their qualifications.
It's her everything that tells me this. From her cute little white crop top to the brown slip on sandals on her feet. Her lavender colored hair tie around her wrist and her light blue denim shorts. She opens the door while looking down at her phone, swiping from left to right. She looks up at the menu for a second before stepping up to my cash register.
"Hello, what can I get for you today?" I ask in my perkiest voice.
She looks down at her phone for a second before she looks up at me. She's done some light make up. Some mascara and a little bit of eyeliner. The kind of look that makes me instantly regret my fake tone when asking for her order.
"Um," She pulls up a picture on her phone from her photos app. "Can you make one of these? My friend said that it was a s'mores mocha something. Could I have it with soy milk though?"
I study the picture. I hate making these drinks. They have about ten more steps, and they require constant attention. That means that I have to focus on one drink instead of making a couple at a time like I'm supposed to.
I hold back a sigh and smile. "Sure thing. Can I get your name?" I pull out my black sharpie and the cup she pointed to while showing me the picture.
"It's Ashton." She says, smiling. Her light blue eyes sparkle as she shifts from one foot to the other, tossing her light, curled, blond hair to her back.
I tell her that I will have it out in a second, and she walks over to a seat close to the window. I watch her as I make her drink. She checks her phone six times within the first two minutes, but only for a few seconds. It's like she's anticipating a call or a text, but she never really looks disappointed when it doesn't happen.
I dance around the cold bar, grabbing all the ingredients that I need. When I am finally done, I grab her one of our signature green straws and slide it over the counter and call out her name. She continues to just sit there, checking her phone and turning it off. I call her name again with a little more volume this time, but still, she doesn't move.
I turn to my co-worker and best friend. "Benny, little miss perfect over there can't hear me calling her drink."
He finishes whatever he was saying to the person in the drive thru and looks in the direction I nodded my head. "That one?" He asks me.
I nod. We both share a look as he starts two blender drinks and one hot drink. He goes over to the customer pick up counter and raises her drink and straw. "Honey, your drink is done, do you want to come and get it?"
She looks up, shocked. I try to hide a smirk behind my hand, but I know she sees it. She gets up and grabs her drink from Benny's hand.
"Sorry, but I don't like guys like you." She tells Benny, daring him to call her "honey" again.
"Sorry, but I don't like girls." Benny says, snapping in her face and putting the straw in her drink with the wrapper still on it. He twirls back around and finishes his drinks, leaving me and Ashton. She walks out the door fuming.
I give Benny a high five as we laugh. It's short lived though. I look back towards the door to my managers office, and see her scowling and shaking her head. She holds up three fingers, telling me to meet her then. I sigh and wait for her to lecture me.
