It's an ice cold winter morning as I walked down the street to Adams house. He insists we walk to hockey practice together everyday because apparently that's what we're 'supposed' to do as best friends.
"Hey y/n, ready for practice?" Adam says as he rushes out the door, still putting his shoes on. "Well considering I walked here, yes I would say I'm ready" "alright, chill, cake eater". People that aren't from our neighborhood tend to call us 'cake eaters' because we're from a more wealthy side of town, Edina, Minneapolis. "Oh shut up, addy". He hates when I call him 'addy' because he thinks it sounds like a 'girls name', but I've called him that ever since we met, when we were 5.
We arrive at practice, so we head into the locker room to see the guys. "Hey, beautiful" McGill says, that boy makes me want to rip my hair out. "Leave her alone, McGill" Adam says in a more serious tone than usual. "You can tell you've never had a girlfriend McGill" I say feeling quite powerful as everyone in the locker room makes that odd "ooo" sound. "Getting told off by a girl, I wouldn't have that McGill" Larson, McGills best friend, says in a mocking tone. "And so what if I'm a girl, I could beat you all in a hockey game" they all know I could, I have before. "Whatever" McGill says, defeated.
I walk over to the corner where I get changed into my hockey gear, I don't like changing around the guys, they can be weird sometimes.
I return from my little corner and see all the guys sniggering at something, I'm not sure what tho "what are you guys cracked up about" I say, confused. "Nothing!" They all say in unison. "Whatever, let's get practicing"
We all hurry out of the locker room to the ice where we see Gordon Bombay, the ducks coach, talking with our coach, coach Reilly. "What's he doing here" I ask Adam, confused. "I don't know, probably some business stuff or something" he responds "probably having another battle over their rivalry" I say, making everyone let out a laugh. Then coach Reilly calls me and Adam over, "y/n, Banks, we need to talk"
