"Mei what are you doing my child."

"I'm painting this flower, grandma. It's really beautiful." He said without looking at her.

His grandma smiled softly "You could have drawn other flower, why this one?"

This time Mei looked at his grandma with a confused look on his face, wasn't the answer obvious.

"This one because its different, its not like other flowers, its one of its own kind. Thats why I'm capturing it in my painting."

His grandma nodded her head in understanding. Kids at this age like vibrant and beautiful things.

"Different and beautiful" his grandma quoted. "Does Mei like other things too or he just like this flower?"

Mei stayed quite for a while like he wasn't even listening. He took two colours pink and white and started mixing them together. He wants to make a light shade of pink but every time the result was not according to his will.

"Yes, I do like other things too, things which are beautiful." Mei replied while smiling because he finally got the right shade of the colour.

After the death of his parents, Mei started living with his grandparents in their mansion. He never interacted with other kids. He always stayed at home, always painting and sketching. So when his grandma told him about their new neighbor and their kid, he doesn't show any interest.

"Mei, you should meet that kid. He is really nice and kind, you will be great friends." His grandma said while sipping her tea.

Mei didn't replied, he was busy in trying the new brushes his grandfather bought for him on his birthday.

His grandmother sighed "He also like painting and his paintings were beautiful just like him."

Mei stopped stroking the brush. "Beautiful" he mumbled.

Next day when Mei was busy playing with his colours, he heard noises coming from his living room, he wasn't a nosy kid but he was curious so he went near the living room and opened the door little enough so that he can get a glance of inside. He saw few people sitting and talking with each other. His eyes were searching for his grandmother but instead his eyes met the most beautiful eyes he has ever seen, they were golden, shinning like a firefly under the moonlight.

"Mei, you can come inside." His grandmother call out for him.

He opened the door fully and entered the room. His eyes were still on the golden one. The owner of the golden eyes was a boy who was looking younger than him. The boy was frowning all this time but Mei still found him ethereal.

"Mei meet our new neighbour Mrs. Tsukishima and his son Kei." His grandmother introduced.

"Kei" he mumbled the name like it was some new word his teacher told him.

"Mei kun will you be friends with my Kei?" Mrs. Tsukishima asked with a warm smile. She was a beautiful lady, her hair were a little different from his son but her eyes were just like him.

Mei nodded with a smile. "Hey, my name is Sato Mei. You can call me Mei. Grandma told me you like to paint. Will you like to see my paintings?"

His grandmother was happy but also shocked because this was the first time Mei initiated a conversation with someone.

Kei looked at his mother for her permission.

"You should go and see them Kei."

Kei smiled and agreed to go with Mei. Mei grabbed his hand and dragged Kei to his room in excitement.

"You sit here and let me bring my sketch book." He said excitedly, he don't know why but he really wants to show off his drawing in front of Kei.

Kei was just sitting on the bed swinging is feets. He was happy that he made a new friend but he was still missing Tetsu.

"Here look." Mei opened his sketch book.

Kei looked at the sketches in awe. They were beautifully drawn. He was now envious of Mei.

"They all are so beautiful."

"Mhm but you are more beautiful." Mei said in a serious tone.

Kei was surprised by the sudden compliment. His face became red like tomato.
"Tha..thank you"

Years passed by, Kei forgot about Tetsurou, as he grew older the memories of Tetsurou faded. He became really close to Mei. He joined the same school as Mei. They both also joined the art club. Mei was his senior so they couldn't be together during classes but whenever they get a chance to be together Mei never leaves him alone.

Kei also never left Mei's side, he used to tell Mei all his big and small secrets amd Mei used to listen to him attentively.

When Akeiteru left basketball because of their father, Kei cried to Mei, he complained about his brother being a coward and Mei just silently listened to him.

When Mei's grandmother died, he didn't cried infront of anyone not even infront of his grandfather but as soon Kei took him in his embrace, Mei cried his heart out to him.

Their world revolved around each other, they both were always with each other no matter what they are doing. Things escalated quickly their friendship bloomed into something more deeper, hugs changed into soft touches and soft touches into deep kisses.

"Mei, did you again threaten my classmate? Kei was fuming with anger, this was the third time Mei did something like this.

"I didn't firefly." Mei smirked.

"Liar"

"I'm not lying. I just told him not to talk to you but I swear I told him this very sweetly."

Kei huffed in anger "Sweetly my ass, you have to stop. If you kept on doing this nobody in my class will talk to me."

Mei didn't replied, he took out his canvas and started pouring colours on in it.

"Ok ignore me, I will also not talk you." Kei speaks in frustration. He was about to leave the room, suddenly Mei grabbed his wrist and pulled him in a kiss. Kei tried to push Mei aways but Mei didn't budge, he held Kei closely until he gave up and started kissing back. Mei grinned between the kiss.

"Someone's not angry anymore."he teased.

"Shut up"

"I love you firefly. I really do." Mei mumbled in Kei's ear.

"I love you too."
