• A few months later •
Lucy looked at the empty spot at the dining table. Isa's seat has been empty like that for a few months now and Minnie her chair was going to be empty very soon too because Jack had proposed to her straight after Isa and Mr. Bronson got married. Tomorrow, it will be Jack and Minnie's wedding.
The youngest Dearhorn sister was happy, though. Yes, she would miss Minnie around, but she was happy that her middle sister at least could marry someone out of love, unlike Isa did.
Luckily, Isa seemed to be content with the life she currently led. Mr. Bronson, Claus was his name, was a good man. He did everything for Isa, just to make her happy, and that was worth something too. Lucy just hoped it was enough for love to grow from Isa's side as well.
"I'm so delighted," mother said, enthusiastically. "Not one but two daughters of mine have found good husbands within a year! Now only Lucy is left to find herself a good man, but I have high hopes for her." Mama looked at her youngest.
The redhead quickly stuffed a piece of cauliflower in her mouth and nodded weakly at her mother.
Her mama wanted her to find herself a husband but Lucy herself didn't. She wanted nobody but Scarlett. However, she also didn't want any shame to fall upon her whole family, so she knew that she wouldn't have any other choice but to marry a man if she wanted to marry at all. She knew that her mother would soon turn desperate and would make her life a living hell until a marriage was arranged.
If only Scarlett was a man, how easy would things have been then? Oh, well, still not easy since Scarlett was a servant too, and that alone would also bring shame to the family, but it was still better than falling for a servant that also happened to be a woman. Blasphemy! It truly was the worst possible scenario.
"Lucy will find herself a good husband, I know she will! I can just feel it," Minnie replied.

"I can't believe we will not share our evenings anymore after tomorrow," Minnie sniffed.
"Oh, Minnie...I will come for sleepovers at your place," Lucy answered, combing her sister's brown hair. "And you will be way too busy with Jack to miss me." Lucy giggled.
Minnie started giggling too. "Maybe. Oh, Lucy, I'm so nervous about the wedding night!"
Yesterday, Isa had told her sisters what was to be expected during the wedding night. Lucy wasn't a stranger anymore to what bedding someone had meant, but the act of a penis inside her vagina was very unfamiliar and didn't sound appealing to her at all.
Minnie had looked at Isa with an open mouth and turned white as a ghost. "But it'll never fit. Is a penis really that big?" She had asked when Isa had compared it to one of the vegetables.
Oh, my. It was a very awkward talk.
"Remember what Isa also said," Lucy answered. "Try to relax and ask Jack to be gentle with you."
"Oh, I know he'll be gentle with me. I don't need to ask him that," Minnie answered.
"Jack is a good man," Lucy said and she looked at her sister through the mirror and smiled. "You will look so beautiful tomorrow," she then said.
Minnie nodded and they looked at each other with glossy eyes.
"Don't look at me like that or I'm gonna cry again," Minnie said.
Lucy embraced her sister from behind. "I will come to visit you whenever I can and you will visit me and mama and papa whenever you can, ok?"
Minnie nodded and kissed one of Lucy's arms.
