A random Friday July 1978

It had been a few weeks since the chaos of moving week and everyone had more or less recovered from the sofa incident. Currently they were all in James and Lily's flat trying to decide what to have for tea, Lily and James cuddling on the sofa, Remus in an armchair, Peter slouched on a bean bag and Sirius dramatically sprawled out across the floor gazing at the celling.

"Didn't Peter's mum give you a Sheppard's pie the other week? what about that?" Sirius asked raising his head slightly, giving himself a double chin in the process. "We had it the other night remember" Lily said giggling at Sirius as he thudded his head back on the floor in disappointment. " I might have the stuff for bubble and squeak but it means walking back to mine" Peter shyly offered. "It's a good idea but what if you haven't got the stuff. As much as I love your cooking I don't want to bet my comfort on a might" James sighed sliding further off the sofa to kick Sirius' foot. Suddenly, Remus stood up with a new found excitement, "what about fish and chips! I saw a chippy round the corner we could try." They all looked around at one another nodding with agreement and slowly began to get up to grab their coats (except for Sirius who was dragged across the floor by a surprisingly strong Lily).

Slowly but surely this become a sort of tradition of theirs. Every Friday night, no matter who's flat they were in, they'd all walk down to the chippy and get the same order:

James - Regular battered cod and chips with salt and vinegar

Lily- Chips with curry sauce

Sirius - Chips and gravy

Peter- Chips and a battered sausage

Remus- Chips, gravy and a Puka pie.

Friday 1993

After all these years Remus had continued the tradition of the Friday night chippy tea. At first he had tried to convince himself that it was because it was easier than cooking, especially after a difficult full moon but eventually he admitted it was because it reminded him of the good old days when everyone was alive and he wasn't as alone. But tonight was an exception. It was the Friday after Sirius had first retuned to Grimmauld place, after Remus had found out the truth.

Remus knew that everything had been rather hard on Sirius and decided to take a chance and try to cheer him up. He had been perfectly fine until he reached the door step and was hit with a wave of anxiety. What if Sirius had already eaten? Molly had taken it upon herself to try and get him back to full health. What if he didn't like the food he used to back then? or what if the memories were too much? Never the less Remus pushed it all aside and walked into the house.

As he slowly approached the kitchen he could hear what sounded like yelling. Pushing the door open he was met with a grumpy looking Sirius and a frustrated Molly. "I've told you time and time again you have got eat something! You're still too skinny" Molly yelled slowly turning red in the face, "And I have told you it's Friday night and the only thing I will be eating is a large portion of chips slathered in gravy!" Sirius replied "It's tradition!" Before the argument could continue Remus sat and the table and placed a parcel of chips and pot of gravy in front of Sirius before starting to unwrap his own food. "Thank you!" Sirius exclaimed in a exhausted manor "At lest someone respects tradition!"
