If there was one thing that Rex was really good at in his new life it would be falling. Sadly sticking a graceful landing wasn't included in the package, a shame really. Thankfully debris and an old wooden table was there to break his fall along with kicking up centuries of dust into the air. Grabbing his Shock Rifle, Rex emerged from the dust cloud and was met with a large crowd of Fallen, easily twenty in all if the optics in his helm was correct. He noticed that only five at best were armed and they all appeared to be Dregs if Ash's knowledge of the Fallen was true. Looking past the defenders Rex took noticed of the younglings being shielded, but what really took his notice was the purple glow in the far corner. A heavily damaged Servitor, barely being kept functioning, lay on top of collapsed bookcases. It was obvious these Fallen were barely getting the Ether they required to properly grow, hence their Dreg appearance.
Rex started to move towards the Servitor, easily brushing aside the thrust of an Arc Spear and tossing a charging Dreg over his shoulder. Making sure to give a wide berth from the younglings, Rex made it to the Servitor and knelt to inspect the damage. Rex hummed in thought and said, "Ash do a full scan on this Servitor and cross reference the damages to what we have in storage. I believe we have what's needed to patch him up." The appearance of Ash drew chatter from the Fallen behind him, confused behind why a Guardian would ignore them. They weren't the only ones as Ash asked, "Why are you helping the Fallen? They have plundered mankind for decades since they arrived in our solar system." Rex stood and he said shocked the Fallen into silence. "Look around Ash, do you see any House markings? These are Houseless Fallen barely scraping by to see tomorrow. Remind me how many times I starved building that farm? They don't have the luxury of being brought back from the dead. No species deserve to die of starvation, to feel that gnawing hunger as it eats away at one's sanity. That is why I'll help them, so they no longer have to sacrifice their lives just so the young will see tomorrow. I shall bring the twilight that lightens their darkness so that the dawn may break on their tomorrow." Rex made haste and quickly left the library to head back to base to get the parts needed to patch up the Servitor, unknowingly gaining a following because of his random act of kindness.
It felt like seconds to return back to Rex's little haven and set up the download from the library. Grabbing the parts needed was even quicker, with the storage being well organized. It was well into the dead of night by the time Rex returned to the library. Crawling into the basement from the shattered window he saw earlier, Rex cautiously made his way to the Servitor. Busting out a chem light, Rex set about fixing the Servitor while Ash kept an eye on the Fallen lurking in the shadows. Just as Rex finished the repairs his attention jerked to the sound of heavy thuds by the hole in the ceiling. A Captain flanked by two Vandals stood in the moon light filtering down. From all the Fallen he's seen in the library, they were the only ones to bare tattered purple House banners. From the way the other Fallen flinched at the sight of them, these must be the bullies of the group and the main source of the Ether shortage. Rex slowly inched his hands towards the Shock Pistol and said, "So I take it you guys are the big baddies of the bunch. All I see is some bullies kicking his fellow Dregs while they're down. Well move over buddy, there's a new sheriff in town." With the swish of his cloak, Rex draws his pistol and snaps off several shots before rolling away from the return fire. One Vandal instantly went down with a lucky headshot while the other took three rounds to the chest and dropping like a sack of bolts. The Captain's shield took minimal damage but his Shrapnel Launcher took a lucky shot that knocked it from his hands. Captain, barely phased by the lost of his gun, drew a pair of Shock Blades and closed the gap between them in one leap.
Rex acting on reflex brought up his pistol to deflect one of the blades as he ducked under the other. With the few seconds of breathing room Rex took out his two Shock Daggers and ready himself for what came next. The Captain came at him again and tried slashing him. Rex rolled underneath him and managed to get a good slash on its legs. In response the Captain sent a hard mule kick that connected and sent Rex flying into several chairs. Rex had to quickly roll away as the Captain dropped down where he was, impaling his blades into the floor. Flipping to his feet, Rex grabbed a nearby chair and slammed it over the back of the Captain, causing it to growl in anger. It rose up with a punishing back hand that sent Rex to the ground once more. Noticing one of the Vandal's Shrapnel Launchers nearby, Rex made a mad crawl towards it. He barely managed to grasp the grip before the Captain took hold of his ankle and sent him flying like a wet towel through several bookcases. The Captain kicked Rex over onto his back so he can witness his death only to see the business end of a Shrapnel Launcher before it takes his head clean off.
With the death match over with, Rex slowly climbed to his feet and looked around. Not a single Fallen besides the thankfully unharmed Servitor was in sight. Limping his sore ass back to the HAB, Rex took off into the night. Unaware of a lone Shank tailing him all the way back to his home. Once back at base Rex limped his way to a barely noticeable supply closet tucked into a corner. Inside was a makeshift cot Rex made for those days where he simply didn't have it in him to ride the death trap down into the lower levels. Flopping down onto the cot Rex was out like a light. Little did he know he was in for a huge surprise once morning came.
