Do sirens exist? That was his question through all these years. Was it enough to listen to disneys and tales? Where did the narrators even get those imaginations? They must have been based on real beings? So, do sirens exist?
Lukas is a 23 year-old boy who lived around people believing in "superstitions". Since a young age, he lived with his grandfather near the sea. His parents were too busy with their business to take care of him themselves. And since then, his grandpa used to feed him stories about sirens, blabbering about how long their tail was, how sharp their eyes were, their nose, and well-shaped lips. Their lovely voice when they sing, their over-expressive eyes changing of color according to their mood, and their soft hair and shining skin... Grandpa Fil told them as if he had met one in real life. Or maybe his imaginations were too wide?
But Lukas wasn't dupe. Even though he loved his grandpa, he wouldn't believe in such garbages.
The problem was everytime they met, he would start talking about ocean and sirens nonstop. He even started saying weird things lately:
__ Lukas, if they come, let them in. Don't reject them because they could die outside. It's dangerous... we need to protect them...
Not only that pissed him daily but, Fil made him do one thing every night: let the light on outside until morning, so that any siren could have repair.
One of the reasons that he hated sirens and anything related was because when he was younger, in middle school he used to believe hard in them, until his friends made fun of him and started bullying him.
He cursed those creatures in his thoughts, but... he will change his mind soon...🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
The ocean became red from all the blood of the fighters. The royal family was loosing little by little and the numbers of rebels increased. The issue was obvious. The king did his best to stay strong and keep fighting, but even with his army, he couldn't win before the number of enemies. All he could do was protect his family. So, he sent soldiers to get his only left alive son, and take him as far as possible from the region. So far that the enemies won't be able to tail him and catch him up. The Prince was still fighting when the soldiers came to him and carry out the King's orders.
Sonia, one of the best warriors and the Prince's fiancé, had to use force to take the Prince with her, since he didn't want to leave his nation behind. He didn't want to flee. That was a true warrior. But the King's orders were intangible.
__ your highness!! yelled the woman. This is an order from the King! And if you refuse to cooperate, i won't hesitate to use force!
__ you expect me to let my people die?! I would prefer dying with them than surviving by escape! I am not so lame! So don't disgrace me!! yelled back Arhan, the Prince.
__ i understand what you feel!~
__ so get back to your unity and leave m-
__ But if this is the last order i receive from the King, I would risk my life to achieve it. Plus, i am your fiancé, i will protect you till the end. So don't make it harder for us! The king wants you alive!
Seeing that the Prince didn't seem convinced at all and was up to an other argument, she added with vehemence:
__ YOUR FATHER wants you alive!
And those words worked better. Family mattered more than rank after all.
Arhan sighed and obtempered. With a broken heart, he followed his guards.
But they couldn't swim further enough that some rebels caught up with them and attacked without hesitation. Taken aback, they had to fight them. But the desadvantage in number were against them. Arhan had the nearest position to the Army's General, and if he fought seriously, he would kill all these traitors. But Sonia ordered her left team to fight them while she took the Prince as far as possible. He knew they won't make it. The enemy was too strong and they weren't prepared at all. These soldiers would... die?
When he turned his head, he saw his allies being beheaded, one by one, drowning in the bloodstained ocean. Even if he was a part of the army for 6 years, he still couldn't bear seeing such a ravage. His people was dying... and he was just fleeing? Running away? What was his life worth if he couldn't protect his nation? What was the issue of living with those deads in the conscience?
Not able to answer those questions, he stopped and swam back to help his left allies, and fight until the end. But Sonia had the reflex to stop him, though it wasn't enough.
__ Your highness! Don't be a foul and let's keep going!! she yelled in dispair.
__ they are dying!! They can't die to save my life!
__ they entered the army on that purpose!! Don't make them die for nothing and let's-
Suddenly, Arhan's belly was stabbed from behind. Noone of them could see the assaillant coming. Sonia reacted as fast as she could and stabbed the rebel, killing him right away. Then she caught the Prince who was falling down and kept swimming away. She saw the prince bleeding so much, groaning of pain, barely swimming, but she had to make him keep the pace. Otherwise the others would catch them up at this rate.
__ can you keep going? she queered in fear.
__ y-yes... it hurts but i can handle it for a few minutes. Is it still far?
__ not really. Just a little more and...
__ THERE!! CATCH THEM!! DON'T LET THAT PRINCE ALIVE!! yelled some voices from behind.
Sonia increased the pace desperately, and the Prince tried his best to follow her, one hand on his hurt belly. Sirens had a hard imunity and he probably wouldn't die of this wound, but it was still painful. After a while, Sonia suddenly stopped. Arhan finally noticed that they have arrived above water, near the land and could see the stars on the night sky imitated by the lights on land. It was a beautiful scenery.
__ from now on, you will go alone.
__ what d'you mean? What about you?
__ I... she smiled and stated: I am your warrior, I serve you and make sure you are alive. And so, I will assure your back.
__ what?? Don't be silly! You come with me!
She put her hand softly on the prince's cheek and shushed:
__ 《 I, Sonia from Syland, vow to serve the people and follow the orders of the King with all my will, without reluctance. I, vow to protect the Royal family at any cost, ready to give my life to my engagement ... 》
Arhan staid silent. He felt guilty and coward, so weak. Because he didn't trust not only the loyalty of his army but also his fiancé, and made her recite her Military Vow.
__ 《and I, Sonia from Syland, will protect Syland and never quit my people. 》
Her eyes were the reflect of her determination and it amazed Arhan. She won't give in. She will fight until the end. And he had no right to stop her at this point.
__ then promise me you will survive, he managed to say. Don't just die for Syland, SURVIVE for Syland.
__ ... Go now, Your H-... Arhan. Follow the green light. They will help you.
She planned to go, but Arhan took her wrist and uttered:
__ Sonia! ... You promised to marry me. So, don't die.
She kissed him as a response and finally disappeared in the ocean.
Why did it feel like a farewell kiss?
A farewell kiss endeed, because it was. They both knew that she had no chance to survive. And Arhan vowed to be alive for her. He will follow the green light and live, he will train harder and come back to get his revenge, for sure.
