"Saarl! Pay attention to class!"

The furious teacher slammed my desk to snap me out of my daydreams.

"Anyway, I have an important announcement to make! In two weeks time, we're going on an expedition to the outskirts of the Jungle of Wrath. We'll be out there for 7 days so make sure to pack enough spare clothes. You don't have to bring any food, you'll be searching the jungle for it."

A student at the back of the class immediately put his hand up.

"Isn't the jungle full of dangerous monsters that even some teachers can't beat? What happens if we encounter one of them?" The student's face was full of concern. You never know what will happen in the forest so his worries weren't empty.

"Then the teacher will hold them back long enough for the students to get away. We'll be bringing some higher ranking knights for extra safety. Though that's only for the most extreme of situations. Most monsters that show up at the edge are quite weak."

With the reassurance from the teacher, the rest of the class also released their tension with sighs of relief.

I, for one, was not too happy about this excursion because it would mean one thing. Lots, and lots of walking. I may go to an academy for knights, but my body definitely isn't that of one. I'm practically skin and bones compared to some of the other kids in my class. I doubt that this trip is going to be fun, even without the monsters.

"Now that that's out of the way, you better head to your next class."

Another day of school passed by and I headed back to my house. Without eating any dinner, I went straight up to my room and flopped onto my freshly washed bed.

I've always wanted to save people from monsters and become a hero. I even had more STR points than average, that's why I was sent to the Academy in the first place. But no matter how much training I do, I never gain any stats. I've fallen so far behind that I could be considered a normal person.

I opened up my status board with a flick of my wrist and looked over it again.

It seems even the system that governs the world is making fun of me. Well, I can only hope that killing some monsters will raise my level enough for my stats to increase.

Soon after, I fell asleep and came another day closer to the expedition.

It was the day of the trip. I had packed enough clothes to last the week and some extra supplies just in case. I had already put some basic armour on and a steel sword by my side, with the large backpack that I was hauling along as well, I felt like I was trying to carry a large beast. My balance was a little off center, a couple civilians had a good chuckle as I stumbled my way up the cobbled path.

When I arrived at the school, A group of students and teachers were waiting by the front gate with numerous horse-drawn carriages. They definitely didn't look new but seemed sturdy enough for the upcoming journey.

"Alright! Now all the students are here, get into your seperate class and form a line to get into your respective carriage."

Classes had 15 students and two teachers each so it was quite a tight fit.

On the way to the jungle, the students did various things; some slept to conserve energy for the long days ahead, some talked to their friends like it was just another day. I decided to get some more rest time in, I don't have friends to talk to anyway.
