The Beginning (Scydelle)

Mother warned me endless of times

To never tread outside after dusk.

But the sun had already faded

Without Soheb returning from his task.

I stopped myself time and again

To wake mother from her slumber.

I felt something dark lurking outside

But my eyes couldn't strain any further.

I glanced outside from time to time

But Soheb wasn't returning yet.

I decided seek for him myself

Before it was all too late

I kept thinking again and again

Of what mother said everyday

That to mighty Aasira the dagger

How teenagers of Scydelle fell prey.

Mother narrated endlessly

How Aasira prowled at night

Searching for her next master

Who could wield her perfectly and fight.

I kept tensing again and again

As it was an end to the day

But Soheb wasn't returning yet

So how could I possibly ever stay.

The first step was hardest of all

But then the fear melted down a bit

And after walking for a couple steps

I knew I would no longer trip.

I was making my way warily

To our nearby little barn

But suddenly someone called out my name

And I quickly turned.

It seemed to be coming from

Everywhere all at once

I slowly surveilled all around

Not willing to take a chance.

Nothing seemed to be out of place

So I decided to walk on ahead

For I couldn't hide from my fears

As Soheb wasn't returning yet.

There! My name was sung out again

And the trees seemed to sway in rhyme

I realized it was coming from our barn

And a shiver went down my spine.

I gave up wary walking now

And dashed towards my unknown fate

For Soheb was supposed to be in that barn

I just hoped I wasn't too late.

As soon as I reached the entrance

I suddenly stopped at once

For there lay Aasira in the middle

Blue flames swirling around her in a trance.

I was quite near Aasira, 'the captivator'

But Soheb was nearer than me

There was a wicked glint in his eyes

As if pain mingling with sinister glee.

"Alya!" She called out my name again

But it was Soheb who responded first

For it's always others belongings

That we seem to long for and thirst.

He swiftly picked it up and looked at me

As I tried to stop him in vain

I finally realized the curse of Aasira

That Mother kept warning me again and again.

I realized that if you yielded the 'captivator'

You became the mightiest to ever live

But you had to let go of all your emotions

For when did anything ever come for free?

It was not Soheb's eyes that looked at me

Nor was it him who sprinted away

But I knew Soheb was somewhere still in there

And I decided bring him back someday.
