I looked in the mirror. A girl with dark brown eyes stared back. Amira pulled the back of my dress, making me stumble. She zipped it up and let my brown hair fall onto my back, away from my shoulders. I watched my chest rise and fall. The black dress didn't cover my shoulders. It hugged my body, showing my curves and a slit that was up to my mid thigh with black Jimmy Choo heels that had crystals on them.

My neck and my shoulder blades were on display as a sapphire necklace was swung above my head and fell onto my chest. Amira's hands moved across my chest and she leaned in from behind. "Smile princess, they'd kill to see you fall."

The door opened revealing Adam. He nodded his head and I knew that it was time to leave. I made my way out the house and into a black Mercedes Benz G63. Adam closed my door and hopped into the front seat and started the car, following the car my dad was in.

I looked at the mirror and Adam's eyes landed on me. He looked back to the road. "Are you never going to say anything to me?" I asked him.

Even though I considered him as my friend and always spoke to him. He never spoke back. He would just nod or bow his head to show me that he heard what I heard.

He looks back at the mirror and shakes his head. "Why?" I ask and he doesn't answer. He drove until we got to the ball. The car stopped and my door opened. I climbed out the car and walked to where my parents were standing.

My father tried to hold my mother's hand but my mother subtly moved her hand. "Hold my fucking hand Madeline." My dad said quietly. My mother slid her hand into father's and they walked up the stairs. I followed behind them as they walked into a ballroom full of people.

Chatter filled the room as people were greeting each other. My mother's hand moved uncomfortably in my father's but he held it tightly. I looked around and saw other girls that looked my age. They were beautiful. Most of them had blue or green eyes and mine were only brown. They were wearing huge dresses that were different colors, green, red, yellow and another girl passed by my parents giving them a beautiful smile in her red dress.

I looked down at my black dress. I felt quite out of place but it didn't matter because I wasn't one of the girls that were going to be chosen tonight.

"Thank you for coming to my son's ball." A lady with blonde hair said from the stage in a maroon sheath dress. Everyone clapped. I stood in between my parents.

"I would like all the ladies to line up, facing the door." She said. My father pulled me back and fourty two girls stood in a horizontal line facing the door. This is insane.

We stood behind them as everyone cheered. The two doors were pushed open and six guards walked in with machine guns on their side. Behind them walked in the most beautiful man I had ever seen walking on this planet. Woah. I stared at him as he walked in with his hands in his pockets. Oozing with intimidating aura.

A black Armani suit, with shiny Dolce & Gabbana patent leather Derby shoes that I had seen on a magazine not so long ago, they cost $1,004. My eyes travelled up his body and I saw how built he was. The suit fit perfectly and displayed his muscles well. He sure did look athletic.

I looked at his face and a gasp left my mouth. He looked up and his grey eyes looked empty. He had pale skin and beautiful rosy lips. Properly plucked eyebrows and long eyelashes. He had jet black hair that was divided into a neat 4:6 ratio.

As soon as he looked around, everyone bowed down to him at a 90° angle. Confusion spread across my face. Why the hell are they bowing?, I asked myself as I looked around the ballroom with over 200 guests bowing to one man that stood in front of us. My eyes landed on him and he was looking at me, his right eyebrow raised, questioning me not bowing.

My father's hand landed on my bare back as he aggressively pushed me down.

"Are you fucking crazy?" He asked while we were looking at the floor. I didn't know what the hell was going but this, was definitely not it.

Everyone stood up straight and I was still bowing. My father held the back of my necklace and pulled me up, choking me on purpose. "I'm going to deal with you when we get back home." I coughed as he said that to me.

I turned to my mother but she wasn't there anymore. Everyone went back to who they were talking to and continued their conversations. I turned back to my father and he wasn't there too. I stood there alone and glanced around the room. I spotted Adam and he was looking at me. I walked towards him. "I want to leave-"

"After disrespecting me?" A deep voice asked behind me.

I turned with my hand on my chest, clearly stunned. A man with grey eyes stared back at me. There was no emotion whatsoever. I looked at him and took a step back. I opened my mouth to apologize but nothing came out. My hand went to my neck as I tried to breathe.

His eyes landed on my neck and I covered it with my right hand. He narrowed his eyes at me, cautiously. I cleared my throat. "Excuse me." I bowed and walked away quickly, towards Adam, almost breaking into a run.
