"Alright guys, I'm gonna hit the hay. Sleep well," I called back to my buddies, walking towards the tree with my hammock. They spoke their goodnights back and continued singing around the campfire and eating whatever snacks we had left. Tonight was the last night of our camping trip and we had to leave early tomorrow. Since I was the only one responsible enough to drive, I decided to turn in early.

Unfortunately, a few of the guys forgot their tents so I lent them mine, hence why I was now suspended in the air by a cloth that was hanging between two trees. I sighed as I climbed in, struggling a little but succeeding. Praying that I wouldn't fall in the middle of the night while I slept, I adjusted my pillow and went to bed.

...

*Rustle* *Rustle*

I slowly opened my eyes, the sound of loud buzzing greeting my ears. Then I heard it again.

*Rustle* *Rustle*

I didn't think much at first, assuming it was just one of the guys. I looked over at the campsite and realized that everyone had gone to bed. It was at least midnight by now, so who was rustling about 25 feet away from me? Staring at the darkness, I caught sight of a shadow. A tall one. Constantly moving closer.

My heart started beating wildly in my chest. I prayed it wasn't what I thought it was, but as it got closer, the silhouette became clearer and the owner of it made low grumbling noises, confirming my suspicion. I quickly laid back down, Praying it didn't come any closer. Obviously, it thought something over here was interesting.

'I seriously hope you guys put all of the food away,' I frantically thought, praying to God that I wouldn't be a midnight snack for this curious bear as it continued to get closer.

20 feet, 18 feet, 16 feet, 14 feet, 12..9...7...6...

I could practically hear it breathing over me as it kept sniffing. Sooner or later, I was gonna be a goner for sure. My heart was beating a mile a minute as I continued to pray that I'd be ok, remembering a bible verse that I had learned a while back. Deuteronomy 31:8.

It was like the buzzing sounds got louder the more I panicked. I don't know when it happened, but it was like the bear had suddenly lost interest in our campsite. As the rustling started to get farther away, it sounded like the bear had come across something in its way. It was hit and landed near me. The cooler.

'Oh I'm SO gonna have a talk with those guys,' I thought, still scared half to death. My heart still beat fast, but at least I was safe for now. It took awhile to fall asleep again, but once I did I slept like a rock.

Boy did I have a story for the guys tomorrow.
