Faint vibrations of phone bring Thea back to reality from her wonderland full of anxieties. Today is the day she was waiting for since last three months, day of admission to her college(not a dream college yet she is cool with it).
Keeping aside her fears, she woke up from her restless slumber. She got ready to see her sleeping father who is worried top notch because of her disabilities or we can say weakness.
Is she really weak? Or are they judging a book by its cover?
Any way she collected herself and woke him up.
They had their breakfast and got ready for their little adventurous admission journey. Her father reminded her to hide her scar and not to tell anything about it to anyone as this is the World of competitors and she can loose her chance unkowningly. She did as she was told not because she was scared of her father or something but she felt it too.
***At the college***
This whole building giving her chills to the spine. She wanted to tap her foot so badly to get away from the situation, to run away. She even tried to calm herself or to find a distraction but no avail.
Thea completed the paper work and handed it to the registrar. The old grumpy man collected and instructed about the document verifications.
'All is done' she thought. But 'no'.
Now, comes her biggest fear 'medical check up'.
'She is perfectly fine. No one can make her loose her seat' she thought.
She was so lost in her thoughts and attempts to calm herself that it took good time to notice there was girl beside her waiting for the same.
Then she noticed her father is fully engrossed in conversation with that girl's father.
She collected herself and said-" Hi, umm, Thea Mehra and you".
The girl smiled and replied-" Samikshya Jhha, nice to meet you and you can call me sam."Thea smiled for the first time willingly after entering this cold building .
Later she found out, they both are from same place VC.
Sam asked - " From where you have done the coaching for medical exam? "
"Chandigarh" " And you? " Thea replied.
"Oh my god, me too", " For the love of God why we haven't met before? " Sam said.
Thea laughed - " Because God wanted to give us a surprise. And to be honest, I loved it. "
Sam chuckled and they talked about their Institute and fun they had during coaching time.
"Literally ,his letterbox was open and... " Sam was cut by the instructor to follow them to the hospital for medical checkup along with a boy whom they assume for the same purpose.
First was the physical fitness checkup, easy peasy.
After that ENT, ophthalmology and gynaecology department tour was a blurr.Man it's tough to see through your one eye with other eye closed and she don't know how many times, she struggled to read those tiny miny words. Sometimes, when doctor is not watching , Thea may or may not opened her both eyes. 'Huh', big deal.
In orthopedic department, doctor asked Vijay, the other guy who followed us or may be whom we followed, to sit as he is on toilet seat. What the heck was that. Anyway, he sat on the bench, then Doctor again instructed to sit on the ground as on indian toilet seat not western. The rest laughed and he stood there embarrassed.
Truth to be told, the doctor was worst instructor.Along with sam and a very embarrassed red flushed tomato, they reached to surgery department.
And here goes nothing. No one will know, she thought.
By buttoning up the shirt she had worn, she reached to the examination table.
The handsome guy / the doctor asked her very politely -" Have you undergone any surgery. "
What should she tell, a lie or truth. Remember your father taught you not to tell a lie. But again remember your father told you to hide the scar, so that you can survive in this race.
Thea answered meekly -" No. "
'I did it. I did it. 'She thought.
Then the doctor eyed her for a moment but passed her otherwise.
After whole hospital ride , Thea came back with a smile, a real smile along with happy Sam and flushed tomato.
Her father was not there ,may be gone for draft making needed for submitting the fees.
After some wait, he came with worry on his face, a known expression to her.
She informed him about the checkup and there was a happiness dancing over him after hearing that.
She wished all her life to see his father this happy for her, because of her. She hated when his father was in worry because of her.
Maybe she shouldn't born with a defect, life would be easy.
After all the formalities, Thea got her confirmation receipt.
She was finally accepted in MBBS course, a medical school, though she never wished for it, she was happy. She was happy because she would be independent in future with no one to worry about her.
She felt herself at peace.
She did it. She is ready to start her journey to college life or we can say a new life.
