He opened his eyes wide and gasped loudly. He sat up panting. He looked around to see where he was. Music posters covered the wall: Led Zepplin, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, and many more. The room was dimly lit with candles and smelled of vanilla. A figure stood at the end of the bed. It was a man in his late twenties, his short spiky hair was died blue with a pink strip down the middle. He must be Xalto, Mason thought.

"So, what's up?" Xalto asked kindly.

"Where am I Xalto?"

"My apartment."

"So what did you do to me?"

"I used my magic to bring you back. Look at your wounds."

Mason lifted his bloody shirt and looked where he was stabbed. I black mist came from it.

"Damn, that's cool."

"Let me tell you this. Mystical revival has some side effects."

"Like what? What do you mean by 'side effects'?"

"You have, in a sense, demonic essence. It replaces your soul after revival. You have demonic power that you can learn to use."

"I DON'T HAVE A SOUL!?" Mason screamed. The candles blew out.

"Yes and no. Until you kill who killed you, your soul is in limbo. Waiting. By the way. Get ready, school starts in 15 minutes. You can borrow some clothes."
Mason grabbed a t-shirt and pants and ran out the door. The school was nearby but was going to start soon. He slid down the stair railing and ran down the street at a breakneck speed. The crosswalk light switched red. He skid to a stop less than a foot from a passing semi.

Screw this, Mason thought, I can't be late. They'll ask what happened and everything will be ruined.
He seen a crow eyeing him. It stared into his eyes. A deep, soothing voice spoke in his ear.
"Child of man reborn, focus on your goal. Focus on your desires. You can do near anything, yet you sit here like a mortal. Harness your power, the power of the black heart."
He focused intently on the other side of the street. The air around him shook and everything slowed down. He opened his eyes to see he was across the street. The voice sounded again.
"Slow but steady, child of man. Before too long, this task will be more simple than breathing. Keep using your power."
He started sprinting down the sidewalk. He focused as he sprinted. Woosh! He launched forward by feet. Woosh! He went further. He felt the power surging through him. Woosh! Further. Lets make it fun, he thought. Woosh! He was running on the rooftops. The school was in site. Woosh! He could hear the uproar of the students. Woosh! He was on the roof. He slid off and landed in front of 1st period as the bell rang.
He tasted the small bit of power, now one thought rang clear.
I need more.
