Izuku Midoriya POV:
Not all humans are born equal. Especially not in our super-human society. This is the harsh reality that I realised when I turned 4 years old.
Me and my best friend Goto Imasuji- who I liked to call Ima-chan, were having fun playing in the playground near our houses with Ima-chan's two other friends. We were having fun playing on the swing sets until a boy walked into the playground.
"U-uhm.. do you mind if I can have a go?" The boy asked Ima-chan nervously.
"Tch. Get lost loser! It's my turn on the swings." Ima-chan says.
"Don't be so rude Ima-chan!" I say hesitantly, not trying to set off my best friend's notoriously temper. "He can take my swing."
I hop off the swings and I let the boy sit down where I once was.
I eventually decide that i'm going to go play by myself in the sand pit for a couple minutes before I leave to go home.
I sit down in the pit, using the provided shovel and bucket to make a makeshift castle out of sand.
I'm about to get on to the third pillar for my castle when I hear a loud thumping from behind me, followed by cries of pain.
What the-
I turn to see the boy from earlier laying on the ground, surrounded by Ima-chan and his two other friends.
"Hey! What are you doing Ima-chan?!" I say as I run over and stand in front of the boy. "Why are you hurting him?"
"He tried to be rude to me!" So i'm showing him who's boss!" Ima-chan says as he tries to push past me.
"No!" I say as I shove Ima-chan back.
"What do you think you're doing?! Don't tell me you're defending this loser?"
"I-I- I won't let you hurt him!"
"You don't even have your quirk yet Izuku! What could you possibly use to take all three of us?" He says as he starts to use his quirk- muscle fibres protruding from his skin and covering his exposed forearms. I look around to see that his two friends have also activated their quirks, with one having having extra long fingers and the other being covered in what seemed to be shiny crystals.
"It doesn't matter what I use! As long as you stop hurting him!" I say as I raise my weak, quirkless fists in an attempt to show that I am ready to fight.
"Hahaha, suit yourself Izuku." Ima-chan says as he launches a punch at me, his muscly arm landing square on the centre of my chest, sending me sprawling to the ground- my breath being knocked out of me. Before I can even react, Ima-chan and his friends are all over me, kicking and punching most parts of my body several times before they eventually stop. I notice that my tears have soaked the better part of the front of my shirt.
"Look at you Izuku. You didn't even land any hits on us and you're already on the ground crying." Ima-chan says as he laughs, the vibration of his voice sounding like an evil symphony of anger and pain.
Before I can even recognise what has happened, i'm already back to my feet. "I'm not- i'm not done." I say as I feel a strange sensation wash over my body. I launch my hand out before me- and before I know it, a root from the dirt ground below us had reached up and wrapped itself around the boy with the long fingers.
"What the-" Ima-chan exclaims.
Is- is this my quirk?"
I try to use it again to grab Ima-chan, but nothing happens. I look up at them, my adrenaline having worn off. I notice that the boy I had trapped had already shook himself free of the earthy shackle.
