It was another old day in the Music Department. The band swinging, The lyricist writing, the Projectionist filming, and Sammy Lawrence sitting in his office. He was furious that the Janitor had quit his job, or that was the most reasonable rumor why he was gone. He had dissapeared mysteriously and no one knew what happened to him. Sammy heard a knock on his door. But he immediately knew who was there, Jack Fain. He always knocks to a certain tune.
Jack opened the door slowly and quietly to find Sammy sitting in his chair hunched over his desk. "Sammy, I finished the lyrics for one of the recent cartoons. Are you okay?" Jack said stepping into his office. He glanced back to the hallway to see if a pipe had burst. But quickly returned his gaze back to Sammy. Sammy turned his head to face him. "I'm fine Jack, give me the lyrics." Sammy stood from his chair putting his hand out. Jack gave him the sheets of lyrics and headed for the door.
With a goodbye Jack left Sammy's office. Sammy sat back down and set the lyrics on his desk. He needed a break. He had been working for hours on end. He reached under his desk and grabbed something. It was an ink well. Tilting his head back, he drank the ink held in the bottle. An accident that included a drop of ink getting his mouth caused him to start drinking it on the daily. It calms him, makes him relaxed. He took the bottle from his lips and set it down on his desk.
He stood up and grabbed the empty ink well. He hid it behind a radio on his desk so no one would find it. He spun on his heel and walked to his door. Turning his head back to the room it was like he was second guessing his choice to leave. He turned the door knob walked out of his office. He locked his door and attempted to turn the knob, failing, confirming no one could enter his office. As he entered the center of the Music Department someone ran up to him. It was the Projectionist, his name was Norman Polk.
"Sammy! I need the lyrics for the new cartoon. Jack said he was almost done with them yesterday so I assume he gave them to you." Norman stated in a rushed manner.
"Yeah he gave them to me first, I'll tell him to hand them over to you next time."
"Great, where are they?"
"They are on my desk. I can give them to you tomorrow."
"See the thing is I kinda need them right now."
Sammy looked at him in agony.
"Listen in almost the end of my shift and so is it for the rest of the studio. I don't want to go get the lyrics for you not even to finish your job with them. I will give you the lyrics, tomorrow."
Norman saw the annoyance in Sammy and didn't want to push him.
"Fine, just be sure to give them tomorrow." Norman finished the conversation and walked back to his recording booth.
Sammy, not wanting to stay any longer, left the Music Department. He walked in the many twist and turns of the hallways. Went up and down the many staircases. After a couple of minutes he found himself in the main room of the studio. Miss Rodriguez was at the front organising all the work on her desk for tomorrow.
"Hello Miss Rodriguez!" Sammy greeted leaning on her desk. She jumped back startled by Sammy's appearance. "Hello Mr. Lawrence! I think I have some news you would like!" She said with excitment and joyness jumping through her speech.
"What is this amazing news?"
"Well, I know that you are quite annoyed with the lack of a janitor. So Mr. Drew has come to the decision of hiring a new janitor! He starts working tomorrow."
"That is great news! Thank you for informing me on this."
"You are very welcome Mr. Lawrence!"
Sammy turned his attention to the clock not far from Miss Rodriguez's desk. The clock read '6:53'.
"Well I better be leaving, it's almost the end of my shift."
"Alright Mr. Lawrence I'll see you tomorrow!"
The two said their goodbyes, Sammy left the building and Joey Drew Studios was left for the cartoons to be continued the next day.
