Sorry for the hold up guys. Here's Chapter 4!
He reached for the wrench and started working on the screws. "Mmh," he mumbled absentmindedly. "I mean who does she think she is?" Jace droned on, "She just straight up scolded me, disapprovingly if I may add, to my face. Who the hell does that..." Johnny actually had no absolute idea about what exactly Jace was complaining about. The pronoun 'she' came up often, so most likely it involved a girl. He was tweaking his bike a bit, losing unnecessary weight and fine tuning some parts of the engine. He left school early specifically for that reason. Then a few minutes later, Jace showed up, started talking and wouldn't stop.
"Are you even listening dude?" demanded Jace. Johnny sighed, "Jace, besides Mom or Moira, you never complain about any other girl. And this happened like what... a week ago? Why would you bring it up now anyway?" He got up and wiped some of the grease off his hands with a hand towel, "There. Should be a bit faster. And I'm betting she's gonna purr better than she roars." Jace moved in to have a close look, "Only one way to find out right? Gear up. I'll get the Chevy ready; that is if you're up for it." The grin, the smug, heart-boiling and irritating grin of his that had a way of piercing daggers into a human's soul was enough for Johnny to accept the challenge. "Oh it is so on."
They met at the previous track, but they would race to the factory instead of the route heading into the city. It was a test-run, just to test his bike's speed; to them though, everything was a competition. "All set?" Jace asked from his car window. Johnny gave him a thumbs up and revved his engine. He was right, the engine ran smoother than before and the ride to their starting line made him realize that it really was lighter. Now, to test the speed. Jace chuckled at the bike's roar and revved his engine. The beast of a vehicle nearly bellowed in pride and sheer power. Okay, maybe this was not the best idea, but he would rather lose to Jace than chicken out from the challenge.
He slid the helmet's visor down and faced ahead as they waited. A timer was ticking on each of their phones, ten seconds left. First vehicle to get past the factory's entrance would ultimately win this 'race'. The timer's rang, and the two shot forward.
The bike shot fast ahead of the Chevy. The head-start would give him the upper hand. He shifted gears fast, urging the bike forward as fast as he could. Somehow, the Chevy was pulling up towards him. Luckily, he chose that track because it was the only one Jace would not be able to shortcut his way out of. Jace's evening drives enabled him to know and master every single path in Daytona. Johnny though, knew that track better than Jace. He raced forward turning the corners ahead easily. The Chevy stayed hot on his tail, barely losing speed as it turned a corner. The factory was in sight in a few. He gripped the handles harder and flew faster ahead, his whole upper body bent forward. To his horror, the Camaro pulled up and drove past him, roaring powerfully. He was hitting speeds of 200 miles an hour, but the Camaro was faster. It tore through the air ahead of him and basically rammed into the factory entrance.
Johnny slowed to a stop and took off his helmet, "That car is a monster." He had to admit, the car was purely for racing. It didn't look much from the outside, but the insides were pure gold to any racer. "Well one thing's for sure, the bike is faster. Now we just need to get rid of it and somehow get you a new one," Jace was not gloating over his win. Weird... "Okay... what's gotten you in a good mood?" Jace always gloated over a win, even if he got an extra piece of pepperoni. "Nothing. Why?" he was on his phone, smiling. Something was up.
"Jace, whatever you're up to..."
"Relax... I'm just texting Moira. She just texted that there's a party we have to go to. Last minute party typa shit. Let's go."
