Chapter 1 : In the Canteen...
"Hey James!" Said Connor approaching his table. I had just finished his breakfast at the canteen when Connor had approached.
"Whats up Connor!" I said equally enthustically. Connor was my old-time frined right from when I was in playschool. We had been inseparable since childhood and our friendship grew only stronger as time passed by. I was quite sure that Connor knew me much better than I knew myself. Being an introvert, I had comparatively few friends Connor being one of them and thus, I treasured his friendship tremendously.
He sat down and took a bite of his steaming hot dog. His brown eyes bored into my black ones and I felt as if he instantly knew what I was thinking about. As if to confirm my suspicions, he asked me "You thinking about her again aren't you?"
I nodded. As usual, I was thinking about Alicia, the new girl in our college. She was a complete knockout with her blond hair and blue eyes and her beautiful kiss-ready lips. His heart pounded when he thought about her. He wasn't exactly the guy who fell for every girl he saw but Alicia was different. He had a not-so-small crush on her for a month now.
But he knew she didn't reciprocate his feelings for her. She was much too popular, much too social and much too good for a guy like him. He did talk with her occassionaly, with his heart pounding at a rapid speed but the conversations were usually short and ended extremely abruptly with me usually giving a silly excuse and running away in order to calm his fluttering heart. I knew I was behaving far too nervous and this would probably destroy what little chance i had of wooing her but I really couldn't help himself.
Perhaps, sometimes she did consider me as a friend. She had tried a lot to include me in various activities in the college but I had always opted out. I had lived most of his life like this, it was too much to ask him to change so suddenly. Connor had been helping me out but they had met with little progress so far.
Connor snapped his fingers in front of my eyes, snapping him out his thoughts. "It cant go on like this" he complained. I sighed. Both of us knew this, we definitely needed to try something else.
Exactly at that moment Alicia walked into the college canteen. She was followed by her best friend Sandy, a chick who did look good but was in my eyes nothing compared to Alicia. She was currently dating Connor and this had worked out in my favour. For every morning Sandy sat next to Connor and Alicia followed Sandy.
They both pulled the chairs and sat down. Sandy gave Connor a flirtatious smile and started fluttering her eyelashes. I started feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading in the private space of the couple and from Alicia's face I'm sure she was too.
Alicia got up and said "I'll go and get the food. James, could you help me?" I almost blushed but managed to contain myself. I nodded and got up. Connor gave me a smirk and I gave him one in return and we left to approach the counter.
