Kageyama and Tsukishima had a very, very, complicated relationship. From the very moment they met, they never got along, constantly at war with each other, it was almost comical to a point. Though, as the months passed by, they grew to tolerate each other, and it became a bit of a ceasefire and the team could not be happier. It all happened after nationals, a very slow and gradual change until even the densest teammate could have figured out how much they changed, especially Tsukishima. It seemed like everybody except Tsukishima and Kageyama could have seen it, and it was so, so painful to watch.

It was spring, three days into the new school year, Hinata was already slumped with his classes, and Yachi, bless her soul, came up with the genius plan to have her tutor him while Tsukishima dealt with Kageyama, and Yamaguchi would also help both of them as well.
Practice was practice, the only difference was the lack of Daichi, Suga, and Asahi on the court as well, despite it being months since they said their goodbyes, the team could not help but miss them. Though Ennoshita and Tanaka do make an amazing team, Hinata cannot wait for the volleyball season to officially start. Hinata remembered the first day of practice when he had screamed when the new first years on the team cheerfully called out Hinata-senpai, soon after it was replaced with a giddy feeling while Kageyama still looked pinched and Hinata troubled him the whole time about it, Tsukishima occasionally joined it, enjoying getting a rise out of the setter. This was going to be a great year, he thought.
Yeah, no.
Two weeks in and Hinata was struggling, this Maths equation was already kicking his ass and Yachi was nowhere to be found, and the homework was due right after lunch, Hinata was suffering. Lunch hour was supposed to be stress-free, but no, Hinata just had to forget to do his homework, and Yachi was still nowhere to be seen, and Yamaguchi was also conveniently absent, leaving him with both Kageyama and Tsukishima for company. Ugh. Well mostly Tsukishima because Kaeyama was currently asleep, so Hinata was basically all alone. And turning this homework in was important because his teacher threatened no volleyball practice for a week if he turned in his homework late, and that cannot happen, ever, he cannot risk Kageyama getting even stronger while he was exiled for a week, he would rather die.
"Tsukkiiii," Hinata whined, only to be met with silence.
"Tsukishima!!!" Hinata shouted, causing Tsukishima to finally pay attention to him.
"What do you want?" he gritted out, eyes narrowing at the shorter boy.
"I need help with this equation, please help me!!"
Tsukishima's answer was immediate, "no."
"C'monnn, it's due literally next period!" Hinata continued to beg, and he is not ashamed to continue to beg either, this was literally life or death for him. Why did Kageyama have to be asleep at this very moment, at least if he intervened maybe Hinata would have gotten the help, damn the universe for being against him.
Tsukishima ignored Hinata, but he was not one to give up easily, and Hinata would not let Tsukishima win by giving up. So, he continued to pester the taller boy until Tsukishima finally cracked, letting out a long-suffering sigh. Hinata smirked, proud of his actions.
