When I realize that we are almost out of gas, a number of possibilities go through my head. Theyr'e going to catch us, I think to myself. I knew it was unlikely since we lost them, but I still worried. We'll be stuck walking, I know this sounds incredibly lazy of me, but I was not athletic. I liked to lay in my bed and read, and I did not enjoy gym class. Jax, on the other hand, looked as if he had no problem with gym. He looked very athletic, especially considering how much his city seemed to focus on computers and such.
"Um, Jax." I said. The car had been silent ever since he got back.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"Wer'e almost out of gas." I told him.
"Crap," he said, worriedly, at least I wasn't the only one. "What are we going to do?"
"I don't know, but it looks like one of those cars that can run on electricity too. We could just drive as far as it will go until it gives out." I suggested.
"No, we have to preserve it." he said. "Stop the car." I did as he said.
"Do you think we could find somewhere to plug it in?" I know finding an outlet would be almost impossible, but we could do it." It was one of those cars that could run on electricity and gas.
"That's not a bad idea," he said,"Can you go back to my city, I think I've got an idea."
"Sure," I told him,"But I don't know if we'll make it there."
I drove and wondered what Jax had in mind.
The ground was just dirt with a few weeds here and there. There was a lot of rubble and demolished buildings. Every once in a while I would see buildings that looked suitable to live in. Obviously they didn't have electricity or running water, but they looked stable enough to provide shelter.
By the time we got to Jax's city we had slowed to a stop, not because I had stoped it, but because we ran out of gas. Perfect timing I suppose.
Jax got out of the care and I followed suit. It was still dark so I went to the back and got the flashlight out of my backpack. Jax came up to me and started explaining the plan.
"We are going to have to get my brother involved just a little bit, but-"
"What?" I cut him off, raising my voice,"You can't get your family involved! That lady could torture him for information, she's not exactly merciful, Jax."
"I know, but he is better than me with cars and mechanics. I'm only good with computors."
"I don't care. Isn't his well-being important to you?" I think I hit a sore spot because he started to get angry.
"Don't ever ask me that! He is the only reason I am here today! He is more important to me than life itself, so don't act like I don't care about him!" he said almost shouting.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you don't care about him. I was just trying to prove a point. If you want he can come with us. Just to make sure whoever that lady is doesn't get to him." I said calmly.
He nodded. His brother must mean an awful lot to him. "Come on, we have to go over the wall and get to my house."
We both got on the car one at a time, and went over the wall. Unexpectedly, I landed in a crouch instead of landing on my face like I usually do. Jax, the graceful one, was standing on the wall however, and was about to leap when he lost balance and fell, hard. I rushed over to him.
"Jax, are you okay?" I asked in a loud whisper.
He rolled over so he was on his back. "I'm alright." he sounded winded.
