—Would he get mad at me if I hold his hands now?
Minhee thinks as he stares blankly into Seongmin's empty left hand. Would he turn around and look at me if I poke them? Midnight, the blacktop fully soaked. Seongmin continues to walk few steps ahead of Minhee, swiftly.
When Minhee was putting away his fully soaked folding umbrella after he received the plastic bag at the entrance of the restaurant, he first noticed that Seongmin was there, then realized that Seongmin recognized Minhee, the classmate who followed him right after, then the umbrella, which Minhee held in his hand. And Minhee's t-shirt that was only soaked — on his left shoulder.
"Ah, so it was raining?"
Wonjin says as he pulls the chair for Minhee. The classmate who came with him sits right across Minhee, and next to Seongmin.
"A little. But I had an umbrella—"
"I'm hungry. Let's hurry up and order something."
Seongmin opens the menu as he interrupts Minhee's remarks. Minhee felt sorry for Seongmin who visibly started to avoid him, blinking carefully not to let Minhee in sight but remained silent.
One weekend of one summer, right after their midterms ended. It was a small playdate of the friend group with whom they were together for a field trip, back when they were in their Sophomore year of high school. They were a group of three boys and two girls, which were all randomly drawn from the class raffle. But even after the trip itself ended, their group chat remained fairly active, posting pictures from the trip, talking about what university they committed to (which, Seongmin and the two girls ended up going to the same uni), and such. Thinking back, the field trip was the trigger to everything.
The field trip itself was, quite frankly, nothing special. The destination was a theme park, where an aquarium and an amusement park were conjoined together. It was also Minhee's first time visiting an aquarium since elementary school, which was also a field trip.
When Minhee was sitting quietly next to the window, staring blankly at the unfamiliar views as he continuously transferred train lines which he wouldn't normally use, all he had in mind was solely to go home. But for some reason, Minhee was nodding when Seongmin quietly muttered "I liked it". Minhee thought that Seongmin's marbly, sparkly eyes that were glazed with drowsiness that he saw on the train back home, looked adorable.
