Wes and Bianca walked hand in hand through the woods, trodding along the familiar path that lead to a spot they knew all to well. Wes had insisted on coming here during spring break. They were both doing really well at college and decided they deserved to come home for a visit.
The trees and undergrowth were covered in dew from the previous nights rain and Bianca ran her spare hand along the leaves tips, shaking the small droplets free. Bianca loved spring and everything that came with it. The rain. The flowers. The greenness.
She looked over at Wes who was kicking small pebbles along with his feet. He had been unusually quiet so far. It wasn't like him. Usually he hated silence. But Bianca didnt mind. The quiet between them was comfortable.
She gave Wes's hand a squeeze and smiled brightly when he looked up at her. He squeezed her hand back and gave a half hearted smile before his face faltered and he returned his gaze back to the trail.
Before long they reached a small bend in the path and Wes let out a small sigh of relief as a familiar moss covered rock came into veiw. He tightened his grip on Biancas hand and pulled her hurriedly along.
"Woah, whats the hurry, Wes?" Bianca laughed taking a seat on the rock.
"Nothing," Wes shrugged plopping himself down next to his girlfriend. "Im just hungry."
Bianca laughed again and pulled two sandwiches out of her bag. She handed one to Wes and he immediately bit into it savagely, scarfing it down in a few bites.
"Wes. Hungry." Bianca mocked in her monster voice.
Wes laughed along with Bianca and began peeling an orange for dessert. He handed half of it to Bianca and watched as she ate. Bianca caught him staring and he looked away quickly, smiling to himself. When they had both finished eating Wes wiped his sweaty hands on his jeans and turned to Bianca.
"Stand up."
"Why?"
"Just stand up," he huffed, extending a hand to her. He helped her up and let her brush herself off.
"Now," he said. "Close your eyes."
Bianca began to protest. "Wes-"
"B, close your eyes," Wes ordered.
Reluctantly Bianca let her eye lids flutter closed.
She smiled. "If you do anything stupid im going to murder you. Ya know, they wont find you out here."
Wes chuckled and stood for a moment, admiring Bianca. Her mouth was slightly turned up at the corners, a crooked sort of smile that made Wes's heart skip a beat. The sunlight filtering in through the trees casting a glow about her that made her dark hair shine. She's beautiful, Wes thought. How did I ever get so lucky to end up with a girl like her?
Wes had spent weeks planning this day. He wanted everything to be perfect. But now that he was actually here he was nervous. He had picked this spot for a reason. It was the first place he and Bianca ever kissed, even if it was "practice". That was the day Wes realized how he felt about B. Now, today, he was gonna show Bianca exactly how he felt.
He slipped his hand into his back pocket and pulled out a small silk covered box. Getting down on one knee, Wes cleared his throat. Bianca slowly opened her eyes. She gasped and instantly slapped her hand over her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she blinked them back as Wes smiled up at her.
"Bianca, "he said her name smooth as honey. "I've loved you for a long time now, and I know I'm a dipshit, but you said it yourself, I'm an honest dipshit. So believe me when I say this. I love you more than you could ever know Bianca, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side. Forever and ever. "
Bianca couldnt stand it anymore. Tears streamed down her face and a few strangled sobs escaped through her hand.
Wes cleared his throat again. "Bianca. Marry. Wes?" He said in his best monster voice. Then he opened the little box and presented the ring to Bianca. It was a stunning round cut diamond on a beautiful silver band. Bianca loved it. She squealed and threw her arms around Wes's neck, knocking them both to the ground. Laughing and sobbing the two managed to sit up. Wes took B's hand and gently slipped the ring onto her elegant finger. Bianca stared at the ring, tears still falling on her cheeks. She nuzzled her face against Wes's neck. "This wasnt so stupid," she half laughed into him. "Of course I'll marry you, Dipshit. "
