You were just lying there in the snow. Injured bleeding to death when I found you.

I panicked and tried to help you.

But I didn't know that helping you would leave me like this.

I saw you as I was going back home. To tend to my greedy father's wishes. To get him the finest Sake available in the market.

It was snowing. The fields were covered with a blanket of snow. Children running back home to their mother's warm embrace to get away from this sudden storm.

I find shelter under a tree waiting for it to pass. There you were, a speck of red in a field full of white.

Just like any other day, you were running around town for errands when it started snowing harshly. It was winter but such a harsh snowstorm was still rare so you took shelter under a giant Oaktree. It didn't protect you well enough but it was sufficient to not get dragged away by the fast-moving winds. When you see a speck of red in the field covered by a blanket of white. What is it? What kind of creature could be so stupid to go outside in this kind of weather? Did it get hurt? Was it dying? All alone in this harsh winter? Did it not care about dying?

You were battling the thought of whether you should go help it or not. You could end up getting swept away by the storm and end up dead yourself. Was it worth it? Saving a creature that you don't know might try to bite your head off or was already dead?

Well, Fuck it.

It's not like your abusive parents will miss you if you die anyway. So do it Y/n. Go out there. Save it.

You place the goods you had near the tree and decided to make a run for it. You hadn't run in ages. But does that make a difference right now?

You ran as fast as you could, the harsh cold winds that seemed to cut into your skin like a knife didn't make you stop. You ran until a ball of snow hit your ribs when you almost reached the creature making you fall into the cushion-like soft snow. It was inches away from your grasp. Your vision got blurry.

Am I going to die?

Your mind was full of negative thoughts. All those years of hating yourself and yet here you were at death's door wishing to live. Wanting to live.

You saw the creature move. You wiped the tears from your eyes and tried to focus your eyes on them.

It was a Snow Leopard. Wounded, lying there with unrealistic bewitching blue eyes. As if it was God's unparalleled creation. Favoured by God's its beauty was easy to see even with poor eyes.

It looked at you with such kind eyes that you had never seen from any human in your entire life. Like it was telling you not to hate yourself. Telling you without being able to communicate with you, that you didn't deserve this, that he felt sorry for you.

To think you were considering letting this animal die brought you a deep disgusting feeling of guilt in your stomach.

You did your best to crawl as fast as your injury let you get close to it. Its leg was bleeding. It was caught in a bear trap. You saw it lay its tail on your hand, in an attempt to warm you. Even when it was dying, it thought about saving a worthless human like you.

"Don't...I don't need to be saved." You whisper weakly before gathering up all your strength as you tried to pull the mouth of the trap open.

The beast whined in pain as it bit your hand. Digging its teeth into the trap and your fingers. Telling you to stop. To leave it to die. But that wasn't enough to break your resolve.

You knew that it was humans who did this to it but it still didn't resent you who was also a human because it let go of your hand almost immediately as it realised you were only trying to help it. He felt sorry for you, something no one else did.

You succeeded in freeing him from the trap. It could get up even with just three legs. It drained you. You knew you would die here, right now. Your rib was broken and you were bleeding. You didn't even have to look at your wound to tell because you could feel the pain.

"Goodbye, you... beautiful creature."
You close your eyes as you thought you saw the leopard dragging its feet walking away.

There was a sudden warm embrace. You could feel someone holding you. Your pain was gone. Your eyes no longer felt heavy. You open your eyes slowly.

It was a handsome man with the same shade of blue eyes as the leopard, the same gentleness as it held. You didn't know him but whatever he did wash away all the sorrow you had shut away in your heart.

"It fine now Y/n.. you can go to sleep. I'll be there when you wake up." His voice was soft, thoughtful like he deeply cared about you even when you didn't know this man at all.

You look at his snow-white hair and caught a glimpse of ears, the ears of the snow leopard, on a man. It didn't make any sense. Maybe you were dreaming, if so this was the best dream you've had so far in your life. Childish for wishing for something impossible like this but what's the harm in dreaming?

You could already be dead and this could be heaven for all you know.

"Are you...that snow leopard-?" You ask reaching your hand out to touch his cheeks to confirm for yourself if he was real.

"Yes, I am Y/n."He held your hand placing it on his cheek, smiling at you.

Maybe he was joking. Maybe he wasn't.

You saw his tail, the same one that had a bit of the blood on it on your rib exactly where you were injured.

"I see. This must be my last dream. Thank you for this happy memory my dear leopard." You smiled at him.

"Thank you for helping me Y/n." He brought his face closer and pressed his lips against yours. It shocked you, but in a good way, it didn't feel violating or forced, it was comforting so you didn't do anything. You felt drowsy and safe in his warm embrace so you shut your eyes. Not knowing whether it was a dream, your death or heaven. You couldn't be bothered after that.
