I'm running up the stairs as fast as my legs will carry me. I am going so fast you would think I am running for my life. Well I might as well be. I look up and see a door at the top of the stairs. Once I get to it I try to open the door. Locked. I gather all my strength and kick down the door. I see three figures standing on the railings lining the opposite side of the roof, two of them are the same height while the third is half their size. All three have dark purple hair, pale skin, and matching school uniforms worn incorrectly. "STOP!" I yell running towards them and the smallest one hears me and turns. As I get closer I see that she is looking at me sadly, tears running down her cheeks. I notice the large scar that starts at the top of her forehead and ends below her cheekbone that goes through her closed left eye. At this point I am sprinting at my top speed as I watch their movements. The other two start to lean forward but the one looking at me hesitates for a moment then does the same.
I jolt awake, panting and sobbing. I sit up and bring my knees to my chest as I try to calm myself down. After a few minutes I hear the soft click of my door being opened and look up seeing two figures standing in the doorway. They both rush over to me, pulling me into a tight hug. I lose all composure as I bury my head into one of their shoulders, sobbing even harder than before.
"Was it the same as usual?" One of them asks and I give a slight nod. They both sigh. I have been having this nightmare for weeks now and every time I always wake up before I can save them.
"It feels so real..." I mumble sadly.
"Do you have any idea who they are?" I hear one of them ask followed by a loud yelp as the other whacks her head.
"Shadow! You know she can't remember anything!"
"I know that, Valley! But the doctor said there could be a chance she starts to remember stuff over time!" Shadow exclaims, tightening her grip on me. "So do you?"
I sigh and shake my head. "I feel like I knew them but I don't know how. I mean they wouldn't keep appearing in my dreams if they weren't important to me right?" I ask them.
"Why don't we go make cocoa, cuddle, and watch a movie to get our minds off of this okay?" Valley asks, standing up and extending a hand out for me. I nod and take her hand as she pulls me up from the bed. Shadow quickly goes past us bolting towards the kitchen as we both giggle. By the time we get in the kitchen she already has three mugs placed on the counter, a pot of water boiling on the stove, and popcorn popping in the microwave. I look down as my head starts getting fuzzy again. Why does this feel so familiar? Valley and Shadow notice the look of confusion on my face and look at me worriedly. I just shake my head and go to the medium sized couch and wait for the snacks to be done. I close my eyes, listening to the familiar sound of popping popcorn and the smell of butter and hot chocolate. I start to play with the ring on my necklace. It's the only thing that was on me when I woke up. It's a steel ring that has 'I will stay by your side till I die' engraved on the inside of it. I have thought about what the phrase means more times than I can count. Did I have a boyfriend? Is he looking for me right now, worrying that I'm dead? Or am I overthinking this and it was made to be a show of friendship, like a bff bracelet?
"Hey. You're spacing out again." Valley said, giving me a mug of the steaming hot chocolate and sitting beside me with her own mug. Shadow comes in soon after with the popcorn and a mug of her own. We spend the rest of the night choosing different movies to watch, eating popcorn, and drinking hot chocolate till we all eventually pass out.
