Run.

Was the only thing that came to mind. Don't stop, just run.  Don't look back, just run. Holding the innocent hand of the boy who was running like something monstrous was biting at his ankles. Cutting around a fallen tree, we continued to run. Never slowing the pace, sliding down the ditch that was filled with water from the rain that was hitting our heads and down our backs. Stopping and leaning back so they don't see us. I held his mouth close, scared he was going to say something, anything. Breathing very slowly trying not to be loud.

I hear the footsteps of the soldiers with their heavy Armour clashing against their bodies. Groaning one spoke, " where did they go? Spread out!" Hearing the soldiers rushing away I remove my hand from the boys mouth. Shushing him before he can say anything. I motioned for him to follow me. Peaking out from the inside I made sure the soldiers were not close by. Climbing out I grab him pulling him out, he clutched my hand with panic hearing hushed rumbling. Pushing him behind me a small bunny rushed out of the tree bush that was falling. Letting out a breath I started walking.

With the rain slowing down alongside my heart rate, I spoke "are you okay?'' Not stopping to look at him he responds "I don't know". Mentally rolling my eyes "well do you feel any pain or like you're going to faint?'' Feeling him stop ''I don't know what that feels like'' looking at him ''what, what feels like?''

''Fainting'' we continued, taking a deep breathe. I decided he was indeed not about to faint, so I keep walking, limping when I feel a sharp pain at the back of my leg. ''Damn it'' reaching to feel the back of my wounded leg, only then is the blood dripping down. Eyes big and wide he looked down at it  ''you're bleeding!'' Shushing him I whisper ,'' Wow I didn't know.''  Stopping once again do to him pulling away, he looked his face dropping. I take his face in my hands ''I will be okay its nothing but a small cut.'' Taking his hand we continued walking for what felt about an hour long. I finally hear the hammers and the laughter of the slum. Smiling I speed up feeling the happiest I've been all day.

Approaching the dark grey concrete walls that surround my home. I give the signal of returning, hearing a loud " who is it'' coming from the very top of the large wall. ''Come on, Cas open the door'' Seeing him lower his hand made, bow and arrow. He questions "Mar?'' Letting out a sigh, setting my free hand on my hip, ''yes, Cas now open up''

''Open 'em up, boys'' he yelled. The large door opened up making a loud screeching noise making the boy, who was still squeezing my hand, covers his ears.  Walking through he followed looking around. Hearing the claps of hands surround me. I'm released from the boys grip and into another's. Cas arms squeeze me ''how was it'' he asked now holding my shoulders ''not as easy as I thought'' Today was my first run by myself, before today I've never ran outside those walls by myself. Although I was running for most of my exhilarating trip, I felt like I've seen more now then when I would when running with my assigned group.

Feeling a small hand entwined with mine I looked down. Almost forgetting the small boy standing there. Cas allows me to take him where all the small orphaned children go. Waving bye to Cas I drag the small boy down the red and blue lit halls of the slum. Taking a deep breath smelling the familiar smell of burning wood and sweat. I turn down the halls, the flashing broken lights providing little help. Turning into the small infirmary, the worst place in the whole of the slum, and that's saying something for someone who has seen all the slum has to offer. Hearing a small laugh come from behind me I turn to face Nora.

"Messing around with old Ender again, are we?''

"Nora, i'm upset you think I am that brave to go up against old Ender again'' We laughing knowing no one would ever touch the old grumpy sack of bones. '' I've brought another patient'' Pulling the boys hand from behind me. He looks up at Nora, slight smile on his face. Nora bends down ''and who is this?'' she questioned. Speaking way to loud for my liking he says ''I'm Eli'' Just know realizing i'd never asked the child what his name was. Laughing she takes his hand settling him in the small bed towards the middle of the room.

Walking out knowing the small boy would forget me, while Nora was attending to him. I yawned rubbing my face walking back towards the living quarters. Passing the center of the slum, livid with flashing lights and people dancing, talking, laughing having human contact. I stopped and smiled, laughing at the drunk fools who didn't have a clue what was going on around them. Turning to walk away from the bright scene, a skinny man bumped into me, not apologizing he  Looked behind him, sprinting off leaving me behind. Running to say something, five more men chased after the man.

Running to see what all the commotion was about. I turned a sharp corner, ducking behind a broken piece of large concrete. Hearing the groans of the man that was just running, now lay on the ground being kicked by the group of men. He lay there groaning while the group of men wait for something, someone. Getting ready to flee the scene, I hit a body. A hard body, my hands placed on the chest of the body I pushed I looked up. Looking down at me was a smiling man the man who wore the name of Ezra. Eyes opening wider then before, I go to speak but a black bag is placed over my head. Hushing my screams and blocking my eyesight of the man the was in front of me.
