Damaged Nature

The sun is setting low in the distance turning the sky into a hue of pink and purple. The older people at The Slum told us stories as kids that they heard from their parents that the sky was once a vast color of blue that resembled a big ocean but in the sky. The sky, when then the sun is at its highest point, looks like a very dull blue gray color with less and less clouds by the day. I hope the sky can reach its most beautiful color scheme before my dies are up because I would give anything to see it.

Especially now that my legs are cramping from walking from the abandoned shed. It had to have been about a 75 minute walk from The Slum to here. I can see the thick grey concrete walls that stand so tall above the messy broken homes that reside inside. The wall must have seen everything from standing all these years. What's the old saying ''If trees can talk.'' Well If only this slab of concrete could whisper all the secrets, only then would people know the truth of the fall of the Earth.

Finally walking up to the giant wall, I show the code and the doors groan open. Walking inside the people still hasn't stopped dancing and drinking. The flashing lights are even brighter now that the sun has gone down, flashing down over the dancing bodies filling the small space. I release a small breath, looking around for Cas. My eyes finally stop going around when I spot him sitting in one of the crowded sitting areas. He's not alone, he sits next to a pretty brunette with tanned skin and big brown eyes. His hand on her thigh while she laughs as he cracks a joke.

I feel my face twist as my eyebrows bunch up as I head in his direction. Holding my side  as I walk along the group of people with their hands in the air and bodies twisting. ''Excuse me'' I say over 5 times trying to squeeze through. Finally Cas spots me right when I'm standing in front of him, he removes his hand from the unknown brunette and stands. ''Where were you.'' I grunt clearly exhausted.

''Oh my goodness, what happened Mar?'' He asks looking down at my neck. No doubt bruised from the giant whose hands caused the ugly mark.

His hands reach out to tilt my head stunned at the mark around it. ''I was fucking kidnapped.'' Hissing when his fingers grazed the mark. ''What? By who, When?'' He questioned leading me down the hall to the infirmary. Leaving the brunette sitting with narrow eyes turned up at me. I turn my head and stick my tongue out, leaving her stunned.

''You didn't notice I was gone for almost 6 hours?'' How the hell did no one know I missed a whole training session and meeting. It was six whole hours and no one came looking. ''I didn't go to training Charlotte was at it again.'' Charlotte was Cas's mom who drank her days away screaming nonsense at Cas.

''Oh I'm sorry.'' I stopped walking and looked up at him apologetically. ''You have nothing to be sorry for, you're not the crazy lunatic.'' I offer him a sympathetic look and we continue walking. He opens the doors and the smell of homemade disinfectant hits my nose. Reminding me of Nora, the sweetest yet meanest person I know. She wouldn't hurt a fly but is fast to tell you exactly what she thinks. She started working in the infirmary at age twelve, studying under her father. She works with what's outside and what Copious gives us to create medicine and herbal tea to help everyone in The Slum. Her dark skin and big white smile helps calm people when they walk in.

''Sit here.'' He points at the makeshift medical bed. It's made out of multiple different medals and a scrawny mattress. It's nowhere near comfortable but it helps overall. He gathers all the supplies he needs and comes back. His fingers graze my chin as he tilts my head as he licks his lips. ''So are you going to tell me what happened?'' He pours some disinfectant of cotton and starts to pat it on my wound. I hiss and mumble ''It was The Brotherhood.'' He stops patting and looks into my eyes, his hand still on one side of my face warming the area. ''Was it The Brotherhood or Ezra?'' I look down silently answering his question.

''I don't want to talk about him though,'' I say stopping his hand and pulling him close. ''I want to talk about this.'' I reach up and pull his head down my lips connecting with his. Dropping the cotton he grabs both ends of my face and moans in approval of my lips. His hands start to roam down, gliding down the sides of my breast. Huming out in approval and he slows his hands as they descend before they graze my stomach, I hiss out.

He stops and holds me out of arms reach. ''You can't do that, not when you're hurt.'' Taking a step back sliding his hands down his face and in his hair. ''I know but I had a hard day and we never talked all day.'' He steps back up and finishes cleaning and dressing both of my wounds. ''That's why we can't we need to bring this back to the group in the morning and you need to get your thoughts together and sleep.'' He kisses my cheek and slides his hand in mine and leads me out and down the narrow halls up to my small living area.

Turning to open my door, he stops me and says ''Get some rest and try to remember every detail because tomorrow we'll need you.'' He smiles softly and turns away.

I open my door and finally take a much needed deep breath. Sliding my clothes off and throwing them in every direction, I step into the small bathroom space and take a shower. I don't even slid clothes on before dropping into bed and fall into a deep slumber.
