This is my story. My life. My time on the show. My time with him. How I met him. How I rose up. How I almost won. Then how I fell. This is my story.

My name is Carmen. Carmen Mellard. I'm 17 years old and I'm going to tell you about my life. I used to sing all the time. You honestly couldn't get me to stop most of the time. Then I stopped singing. I never sang in front of people ever again. Only one person knows exactly why I stopped, her name is Nina, and she is my sister and best friend. But now, I'm telling everyone. Well, everyone who reads this. It all started when I was 7 years old.

"Carmen! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! It's our birthday!" Nina shouted in my used-to-be-sleeping face. I started to groan but then processed what she had said and shot out of bed. "PRESENTS!" we both screamed at the exact same time. I realize now how selfish and greedy that is but hey, we were 7. I had only asked for one thing that year so I was sure I would get it! I loved to sing and I wanted more than anything to be able to accompany myself, so I asked for a guitar. We ran down stairs, still in our pajamas, and were greeted by the sight of presents and the smell of chocolate chip pancakes. "Happ birthday girls!" Mom said to us cheerfully. "Where's Dad Mamma? Wasn't he supposed to get home from his trip las night?" I asked her. "Oh yes, about that. His flight got delayed by quite a bit, and he won't be home until tomorrow," she told us sadly. That was the first of many missed birthdays. Nina, fortunately wasn't fazed and she brightened the mood in the blink of an eye. "Mamma! Can we open presents now!" she asked excitedly. "Of course you can sweetie! The presents are in the living room," Mom said cheerfully, clearly relieved that we weren't to unhappy about Dad. We both ran into the living room and stared at the pile of presents. "Wow," I said, in a daze. "Can we start now?" I asked eagerly. She nodded yes and we both ran to the pile then began ripping open wrapping paper. When we were done, I noticed that we had both gotten everything on Nina's list. So basically, clothes, clothes, and more clothes, with a few barbies here and there. I hadn't gotten the one thing I asked for. Mom decided to speak up right then, "Carmen, there is one more present waiting for you in my bedroom." I jumped up and ran to her room to find a brand new, cherry wood guitar lying on a stand with a beginners book next to it. "WOOHOO!!!!" I screamed and ran out to Mom. I tackled her in a hug and ran back to grab the beautiful instrument. Cradling it in my arms I walked back to the living room slowly, a huge grin spread from one ear to the other. That was the first day of my music carreer. Now I'm going to skip forward to my almost last.

It was my 12 birthday and Dad had missed every single birthday since that first miss when Nina and I turned 7. It was the talent show and I was performing in front of the entire school. I had my guitar with me and I was ready to play but you have no idea how nervous I was. The worst part was, that I was performing in front of the most popular girl, Taylor. She hated me, I have no idea why, but she did. She would do anything to humiliate me. I walked up on stage and heard a mix of cheers, and one BOO! Probably from Taylor. I sat down on the stool and put mu guitar on my legs. I started strumming, strumming, singing.

"Since U Been Gone"

Here's the thing we started out friends
It was cool but it was all pretend
Yeah yeah
Since U Been Gone

You dedicated you took the time
Wasn't long till I called you mine
Yeah Yeah
Since U Been Gone

And all you'd ever hear me say
Is how I pictured me with you
That's all you'd ever hear me say

But Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get
What I want
Since U Been Gone

How can I put it? You put me on
I even fell for that stupid love song
Yeah, yeah
Since U Been Gone

How come I'd never hear you say
I just wanna be with you
I guess you never felt that way
