Chapter 2
"Shit, sorry," I said as I turned the corner to my room and crashed into someone, the large box in my hands faltered and I struggled to keep it in my hands. Large hands covered mine taking the weight of the box before it fell out of my hands. They moved away their back to me and placed the box onto the bed before turning around.
My breath caught in my throat, "H-hey," I said breathlessly.
Jace stood in front of me, his sandy blonde hair hanging over his eyes, shadowing his already dark eyes. He crossed his arms over his shoulders, his biceps popped out of his tight-fitting white t-shirt, "Hey."
Jace was my brother's best friend, they were inseparable since secondary school and had decided to go to the same university. I still saw my brother and Jace regularly when my brother used to come home for term breaks during summer and winter, and of course to take me and bring me back from boxing training and the fights; even though I had insisted that I could get there and back myself.
I remembered the argument with my parents like it was yesterday when I told them I wanted to start fighting again they weren't happy and were even less happy when I told them how far away the training centre was, therefore, they insisted that Teddy take me there and back for training and to all my fights.
I wasn't even sure why Jace decided to come, it wasn't his burden, it was my brothers.
"Jace told me you have a fight coming up," he said, leaning against the wall next to the door.
I nodded, unable to say anything.
"Is it in Brixton?"
I nodded again.
"You got training before?"
I managed to find my voice but still stuttered on the first word, "Coach's giving me some time off, to settle into uni first."
He didn't reply, he just looked at me.
"Hannah!" my mum shouted from the hallway making me jump.
"Y-yes mum," I replied sticking my head out of the doorway and looking down the hall.
She was stood at the doorway, holding two large boxes, "Come and help your poor old mum there's still more boxes in the car."
Jace passed me in the tight doorway, our shoulders rubbing against each other, and he strode down the hall, "Here Mrs P. I'll come and get some."
My mum smiled up at Jace. "Thanks." She huffed, blowing air up into her face as he passed her.
I didn't move as I stared at the disappearing back of the boy, I'd had a massive crush on ever since I'd laid eyes on him, but knew I'd never even have a chance with.
I'd had a crush on Jace for as long as I could remember, from the moment Teddy bought him into our home and I'd first laid eyes on him, the way he smiled at me, towering over me, and introducing himself. He was young and immature back then, but he'd grown into such a man and every time I saw him those feelings just came right back. I'd tried to get over them, I really had, even dated other boys, but still those feelings niggled away at the back of my mind.
Jace was the 'super' kid, the one who every mum wanted as a son, the blonde hair, dark eyed beauty who was good at everything it seemed. Everyone liked him...or wanted to be him.
I, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. The dark haired, dark eyed monster, the 'black sheep' of the family, the who had done a complete one-eighty after her boyfriend dumped her before he went to university a year ago.
I used to be that person, the one who girls envied, and boys wanted. Maybe as the person I was would have stood a chance with Jace, but not now. Not anymore.
