Okay, so I imagine that maybe Richard's unhappiness eventually shows and he and Dashlie have a talk, and Dick talks about how he feels worthless and weak because he is. And then Dashlie gives him the necklace, saying she stole it from a dead pirate and legend says it makes you stronger. He doesn't believe her but takes it anyway, and it works, actually making him stronger In reality she just got it for a dollar at Grocery Kingdom in the clearance isle and it was an impulse purchase One of those.....
