We start with two very different yet similar people. I am sure you have heard of the term opposites attract. You could say that this was definitely the case. Embrace yourself as you see how these two spend their lives. Consider it as a background detail of the characters.
Meet, Alia, a girl who has been through it all starting from a young age. There was so much happening in her life with family toxicity that she never even realized due to her small age. She always felt loved and cared for, but she never realized all the hate her parents received which included her as well. Being born as a girl was a disappointment for everyone in the family, however for her father and mother, it was the greatest blessing. Realizing that they wouldn't receive any support from their family to be able to raise their daughter and educate her, Alia's parents decided to take her all the way across the world to Canada. Due to complications, only Alia and her mom were able to fly out. Not knowing when she would her husband again, Alia's mom wiped her tears as she held her daughter towards her chest on the plane that would create an enormous distance between her beloved and her daughter.
It was a struggle for both Alia and her mom to adjust to the new country. Fortunately, Alia's mom had family members that lived in Canada, so they didn't have to worry too much to find a place to stay. After a few days of staying at their family members house, Alia's mom realized that her family members had changed, and that they were not who they were a few years ago. Money had completely changed them. Feeling like a burden, Alia's mom finds a job for herself to be able to get her own apartment for her and her daughter.
Without a phone, it was hard to communicate with her husband back home. Therefore, Alia's mom decided to use the help of her brother to get in contact with her husband. Her brother denied to help bring him to where they lived. Devastated, she began to call her husband through Skype. There was a small computer that she would steal to use to get in contact with him. She would always be finding ways to bring him to Canada with her daughter.
Her mom saw her struggle and decided to give her money to purchase a small phone. After she had a phone, it became easier for her to contact her husband and within three months he was able to legally come to Canada as well. They found a job and were barely stable enough to support their family. One day, Alia's mom overworked herself and almost ended up on her death bed. She was coughing up blood and fainted. She was immediately taken to the hospital. They were in shortage of money, and even then her brother did not help pay for any of the medicine. Her husband who could barely afford anything ended up paying for everything. Alia simply sat next to her mom who was sleeping on the couch and held her hands. She was just six witnessing everything.
At school nothing was easy. She was never able to speak English properly. Teachers would always get annoyed, because she spoke so slowly. Many days, she would cry silent tears. She never knew what was happening. Everyone would go away from her and hate having to play with her. They would whine and wish they did not get picked as her partner. Kids would purposely try to trip her and laugh. She did not dress like them. She did not talk like them. She did not look like them. She felt heartbroken every time. There were teachers who wrote notes on her test papers for not knowing anything, and then make her deliver it to another teacher so that other teacher could respond with something terrible as well. There were times when she would get injured during P.E, but the teacher would think that she was faking. She would try and ask for further instructions, but rather than being patient, the teachers would yell as if it was her fault for not understanding. She spent years trying to fit in.
She never had many friends. She had one friend every year, but they would always move away. There was a time in fifth grade when she met a group of girls whom she thought were her best friends. It turned out they only used her to laugh at her. She went through this many times.
She had been through tuff things. Mentally she was tired, but she did not even know it. Betrayal was all she faced. She was never able to tell her parents due to the fact that they were always busy. She thought the only way to gain friends was through sympathy. So, she started posting things that made her seem like a victim. She felt that if she made everyone feel sorry for her, she would have friends. She couldn't have been more wrong. There was a time when she found out her lungs did not work as well and that she has asthma. She decided to tell her friend whom she trusted so dearly, but that friend ended up being a traitor. Everyone at school started calling her, "the girl with fucked up lungs." Her heart broke.
She had just faced a heartbreak. She thought this boy she could trust. He ended up breaking her heart as well as cheating on her. With a heavy heart, she questioned herself. She questioned why everything was happening the way it was happening. She wondered if she was the only one that had to face so much at once or if others did too. She stayed in a corner crying and posting depressing pictures on her stories.
About 7,138 miles away there was Akash. Similar to Alia, Akash had a tuff life. Before he was born, his father had passed away. On a regular day, Akash's mom was chasing her 1 year old daughter around the house to give her a bath. Her husband grabbed her hand and gently yet firmly said, "Yashoda sit down. You are pregnant with our baby. I will get her." Then, he kissed her forehead. She smiled as she watched her husband with her first born. She walked up to him and hugged him as he put their daughter to sleep. As she dozed off, he put his hands on his wife's belly. He stroked it and kissed it. "I can't wait to hold you my love," he whispered. She smiled and stroked her husband's hair, "I think it will be a boy, and I really hope he gets your height instead of mine." He laughed and said, "I think so too, and he will have your lips. But for gods sake, I hope he doesn't get your anger." Annoyed she pushed him gently, and he hugged her. "Well, I must be off. I will be back in a few days, and you better be waiting," he smiled. With a forced smile she said, "please be safe."
"Always my love," he kissed her cheek.
That night she felt chills all over her body, and she heard whispers that said, "Yashoda." It was her husband's voice. She felt nervous as she waited for him to come home. Days go by, and weeks go by too. Finally she receives the news that her husband is no more. She shook and completely broke down. She couldn't think, nor could she comprehend anything. She demanded to see the body, but he had been murdered. There was no way to see it, and she was simply given his clothes. She fought in court for years, and every year the case was never looked at. She demanded justice, but nobody gave her any support. All the land and money that they had, her husband had sold all of it. Left with barely anything, she gave birth to her beautiful baby boy, Akash. She held him, and she thought about how her husband wanted to be able to hold him. Her baby had his eyes. She broke down again hugging her baby. Her daughter, 2 at the moment simply watched and didn't say a word. She never mentioned her father again, and it was as if she just understood that he was gone.
Nobody told Akash about the fact that he had no father. He just assumed random people were his father. His mother was too heartbroken to tell him, and nobody else wanted to go against her wishes and tell him. He struggled a lot as a kid. Financial problems occurred a lot. The kids that he was around had a terrible influence on him. Under peer pressure, he began smoking and drinking. He was aware of things, and he was a good kid by heart. He was very stubborn though and had a lot of anger.
At school, he was feared by most kids. However, his mom took him to a school far away from his hometown in fear that he would get into the wrong crowd. He didn't realize it at first, but it essentially did end up helping him. He stayed in a Hostel with other students. He quickly made friends. He got into many fights, and he was feared there as well. He was the humble bad boy. Everyone thought he had no future in education due to his image, but he proved everyone wrong by having the highest scores in the tenth grade final exams.
Girls came into his life. Girls betrayed him. He did end up falling in love. However, it turned out that girl betrayed him and cheated on him. She was cheating on both him and his best friends. She created a fight between the two. He ended up getting his friend back, but he was still heartbroken.
His sister was getting married soon. All his life he remembers fighting with his sister, but now he could not wrap his head around the fact that she will be gone. It wasn't like she would go a few hours away, she would be about 7,138 miles away with a guy she found in Canada.
